I'd like to propose a message...I know we've discussed this before.
Please...can I get all of you, to place an American Flag in the distress position on your car. It is a quiet private way we can identify and show solidarity for one another.

When I drive and see so many * stickers it makes me SICK. I feel so alone out there. If I knew there were more of us out there it would help. I live in a red state so I'm frankly afraid that someone will mess up my ride if I put anti-stickers on my car. I've been buying them and collecting them, but I don't dare put them on my car. Being a SBF I'm afraid that they will follw me home and do some crazy racist shit. I think this will slip past the idiots.

Do you feel the same way? Let me know what you think.

1. that's a great idea......
I assume you mean putting the flag on upside down? I will certainly do it......symbolic nature of it is much more subtle than the anti-stickers you have and probably will pack a more powerful punch because of it. I have anti-George stickers on my car I plan to replace soon.

2. I like your avatar.
I feel the same way. I'll print out a small American flag and tape it on my car window for my drive to South Florida.

8. Thanks about the avatar, but there may be a problem with this and
Bubbas also.

3. The problem with that idea, Xultar, is that
the "flag in distress" position - flag upside down? - is often misinterpreted as being AN INSULT to the flag*..and you don't want to do that with all the rednecks around...dangerous.

*How do i know this?...because when John Kerry left Vietnam and joined the anti-war movement, he wrote a book called "The New Soldier"...on the cover is a bunch of protesters with an upside down flag...It was roundly criticized by Repugs as "disrespect" for the flag....and this made the rounds for a LONG time before I found out the true meaning....My advice would be to NOT take this kind of chance...

7. Hell Yeah, but I don't know if I can wear it based on the fact that
the bubbas will think of it as an insult and try to whipp and hang my ass.

5. I don't think that it is a very good idea...
The meaning you abscribe to it is sound and worthy..but most people seeing it will view it as an attack on the flag and as an anti-american statement akin to flag burning..

11. and???
it is a protest, not just a distress symbol. maybe if enough people do it and enough rednecks try to beat us up or worse for it then we'll get some press and someone will actually ask one of us why we fear for our country and maybe one other person who was ignorant will see and understand. this is gonna be messy folks. we're talking about taking back our country from the throes of fascism. it's not going to happend with a bunch of people raging against the machine on a forum that mostly only the converted read.

13. You do realize this woman will be in very big trouble
if Bubba redneck see's this don't you? I like the half mast on antenna idea below. I actully put my deomcratic underground sticker on the side window of my van, so that no one can see it from the back. Who the hell knows what bubba is likely to do if they see it while you're driving down the road. Funny thing is, I have had more than one person comment when I pulled up next to them in a parking lot and, despite living in a red state, not one of them has keyed my car or slit my tires yet!

16. We are not at the American Tea Party point yet!
When this woman has a crowd of American Patriots surrounding her shouting from the rooftops that America is under seige she will feel perfectly comfortable doing whatever she likes. For me turning the flag upside down is not the answer regardless! For now subtle messages word well enough. I prefer to bring my "Big Bush Lies" novel into a coffee house or book store rather tha n carrying an American flag around upside down. The statement is plenty loud enough for people to see. In fact I'm thinking of going to the mall and inserting a few count the vote bookmarks in books at the bookstore today. Things are heating up. We should get some more webb visitors going!
