Insurgency, what is it.
Is it created by diplomacy?

Is it created by longterm sanctions?

Is it created by supporting a regime and then turning on it?

Is it created by the destruction of civilian infrastructure in '91?

Is it created by cluster bombing in Hilla?

Is it created by napalm on the bridges in Basra?

Was it inflamed by white phosphorous in Fallujah?

Is it created by your mother, brother, sister, daughter being a "casualty" of your freedom?

Is it created by an illegal invasion under false pretenses?

Is it created in the minds of people who knew they didn't have WMD and weren't fully allowed to prove so?

Is it created by longterm unemployment?

Is it a product of Iraqi nationalism and self-determinism?

Is it created by the wholesale selling off of Iraq's economic infrastructure to foreigners?

The Hand-Over That Wasn't: Illegal Orders give the US a Lock on Iraq's Economy
by Antonia Juhasz

Officially, the U.S. occupation of Iraq ended on June 28, 2004. But in reality, the United States is still in charge: Not only do 138,000 troops remain to control the streets, but the "100 Orders" of L. Paul Bremer III remain to control the economy.

These little noticed orders enacted by Bremer, the now-departed head of the now-defunct Coalition Provisional Authority, go to the heart of Bush administration plans in Iraq. They lock in sweeping advantages to American firms, ensuring long-term U.S. economic advantage while guaranteeing few, if any, benefits to the Iraqi people.

4. It is possible to define objectively
Regardless of whether one agrees with the cause, it is very easy to differentiate between guerillas/insurgents and terrorists, and it is not uncommon to find the characteristics of both within the same unit. An insurgent is just another type of soldier who targets the enemy, while the terrorist makes a point of targeting non-combatants to (a) improve the odds of surviving the encounter (coward) or (b) intimidate the population (thug). So blowing up an army facility would be an act of insurgency while blowing up construction crews who are trying to rebuild the country would be an act of terrorism.
