CNN coverage of Rumsfeld visit...After his speech they showed an officer
presenting him with a 1st Cavalry branding iron (approx 6"X4" on 2 foot handle)

I wonder what that's used for.

Where soldier threw down playing cards on the enemy bodies as a way of "signing their work"

Maybe the iron is another way of doing that.
(I don't know, I've never seen such a thing)
