2. I think they should attack commericalism, not "Christmas"
I wonder whether these websites are really attacks against Christianity, and not just excess shopping. The originator of the site seems to have an agenda that goes beyond just eliminating shopping/crass commericalism (a topic I happen to agree with).

I know fundamentalist Christians (many, in fact) who do NOT exchange Christmas Cards, who do not participate in decorating trees, etc. Not because some of these rituals are pagan origin, but because nowhere in the Bible does it say to celebrate the birth of Christ. It is not a Biblical celebration at all, in the strict sense of the word. Even for more moderate Christians, however, who participate in these rituals, there does seem to be an interest in getting away from the more commerical aspects.

Come to think of it, many of the most un-religious people I know are the ones buying the most gifts and putting up the biggest Christmas tree as a way to show-off. They are the class of ultra-capitalists who pray to money, not God.

3. Celebration of Christmas
It was a long time before Protestants celebrated Christmas. Catholics had a head start on them. Christmas was not celebrated in colonial times. Actually Christmas didn't catch on until the Victorian era, (see Dickens). It became a holiday in the Grant administration.
Easter was celebrated as far back as the 3rd century.

4. could be fake
The Nazi-like style of the graphics makes me wonder if this is a real site, it could very easily be set up by the "Xmas defenders" to prop up their phony claim that Xmas is under attack.

We'll see if that site shows up in some right-wing columns...

btw, how did that site come to your attention?

Where did I first see it?: here. I can't remember who first posted it. I think the site works.

What oh what would Michael Savage think? Am I by nature a dour cynical extremist hardass? I dunno, what oh what would my Puritan ancestors think?

"I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue!"-Barry Goldwater

Um, "Season's Greetings to all"... as they say. }(
