Christmas Gift: Bright Idea for Iraqis.
Shooting at us, blowing us up will always be unacceptable to Americans. Why don't the Iraqis just use their considerable intelligence:

Massive protests with signs that say, all of them, :PLEASE LEAVE NOW

Nothing more. They can just stand there holding the signs, chanting, giving speeches.

This would work. What would public response be? Golly, gee, they want us to leave.

I never understood why the Palestinians refused to resort to protest and or civil disobedience. Gandhi is better than Che for the Iraqis to gain their goals.

3. Disagree respectfully.
They protested like mad about 2-3 weeks after we took over. It was great. I remember one guy saying, "We're glad Saddam is gone, no please leave." * and company understand how to deal with shooters, they just shoot back. I am convinced a full scale civil disobedience/protest movement would blow people's minds and put us in a very awkward position. We'd look even more ridiculous than we do now.

That's what started all the trouble in Fallujah--a group of local residents had a demonstration against the troops occupying a school, and they were fired on, with many killed and injured.

According to Aidan Delgado, a former member of the National Guard who served in Iraq, the prisoners in Abu Ghraib tried to protest their horrendous living conditions, lack of food, etc., and they were mowed down, too.

Clearly, non-violent protests are not going to work under these conditions.

2. If they had a protest, would anyone cover it?
Edited on Sat Dec-25-04 01:49 PM by ayeshahaqqiqa
I agree that Ghandi's idea of civil disobedience is the way to go. But would it be possible now? Or would violent elements within Iraq, who LOVE the fact that Bush has been reelected, keep this from happening? And finally, would the US press, which barely covered the massive world protests before the war began, even deign to cover Iraqi protests?

4. The signs should say:
You'll get your flowers and dancing from us on your way OUT. Buh-bye!
