Queen Sends Christmas Message of Tolerance
Edited on Sat Dec-25-04 02:44 PM by Sannum
LONDON (AFP) - Queen Elizabeth II (news - web sites) used her televised Christmas speech to praise the virtues of religious and ethnic tolerance, telling her fellow Britons that diversity is "a strength and not a threat".

And in a separate special message to her country's troops serving around the world, notably in Iraq (news - web sites), she also expressed pride in their work and support at the end of a "very demanding year."

"Religion and culture are much in the news these days, usually as sources of difference and conflict, rather than for bringing people together. But the irony is that every religion has something to say about tolerance and respecting others," the 78-year-old monarch said in her annual address to the nation, as she reflected on the meaning of Christmas.

"For me, as a Christian, one of the most important of these teachings is contained in the parable of the Good Samaritan, when Jesus answers the question, 'Who is my neighbour?,'" she said.

1. Glad to hear something that makes sense
from a head of state. Thank you, Your Majesty.

3. FIRED elected LW Australian Premier.. been RW ever since IIRC
Edited on Sat Dec-25-04 03:15 PM by oscar111
vaguely ten years ago, this "queen" {who needs them?} fired the aussie PM.

some obscure law.

Not a close observer of aussie, but i think they have been saddled with RW premiers since this abominable act.

She is a thug. All royalty is a dumb idea.

this article looks like the same "false front " method bush uses so much.

Compassionate Conservative, ... compassionate royalty... when will joe citizen wake up?

PS where is the French royal family? why does one never hear of them? They had one in 1850, i know.. heirs must be around. Why does the press never do a story on them? All we hear of is Counts, who are below Royalty. Hmmmmmmm. Most curious. Tinfoil ideas? LOL.

4. Actually, the Queen is known for being quite progressive,
if not liberal in her personal beliefs. The Queen does not have the power to "fire" any Prime Minister in the Commonwealth.

I believe the French Royal Family has all died out or are penniless, essentially.

7. Sannum, reality appears 2 be opposite to ur post
Trying not to flame you, yet say that the ideas in the first half of your post, are diametrically opposite to what i have read from multiple sources in the media,

as to firing the aussie PM.

An aussie pen pal also said, that the queen still has the power to fire the aussie PM.

If one fires a LW PM, how can it be said one has progressive ideas?
I know not if she can fire other PM's.. might be something unique in aussie's laws.

Appears similar to how we cannot seem to get rid of the electoral college... and how we have some obscure laws about when and how to do martial law.

Again, not attacking you, just the ideas in your post. I abhorr flamers.. so not flaming you. Perhaps you have read something i havent? Can you relay your source? Alas, so long ago, i forget mine own sources.

As to france, penniless princes ought still to warrant press mention.
