Has anyone begun to notice the worthlessness of the dollar?
We don't get as many dollars anymore, people accept lower and lower wages, our taxes and grocery bills go up, so do our real estate taxes, insurance premiums for house car, and mostly medical, but, if you have a few dollars left, which many don't, you will find you can't buy much with 'em either. you can buy a CD player that you would expect was made in America, but no, it was made it China, and, it don't work, either. You can take it back to radio shack but you they will say you are 10 minutes late with it, and begrudingly trade if for another that doesn't work. You can buy an american flag lapel pin to show how flecking patriotic you are but it's made in Japan. My husband is a primary care medical provider, and I have decided from now on our family will have to get all their care from him at home. I hate to ask the man to do surgery on the kitchen counter for family members, but that's the way its gonna be, because, when I had minor surgery this year, something my guy could easily have done on the kitchen counter, it cost me $1000 that the insurance didn't cover, and they did a lousy job, and treated me like an American tourist in France! Give us your money, and get out of our face, we don't really care how it turned out. Geeezsh. Phone bills going up, cable bills rising, the minimum wage is the starvation wage, you must make enormous amounts of money to survive in America today and with whats left you can no longer buy any quality. Nothing is made in America.

1. Don't forget to read the small print on every single
thing you buy. I bought some Christmas decorations this year and when I was putting it on the tree, just happened to notice the fine print which explained that the wire is coated with lead and that you had now been exposed to lead if you touched it and that you should wash your hands.

Oddly enough, I thought lead had been pretty well banned from our eco-environment, hadn't it?

they banned it but then they decided to let Cheney make secret deals with the energy companies allowing them to increase mercury and lead immisions and so our water is so trashed I don't think anybody is worried about light bulb touching anymore. Did you know the polar caps are melting, the Glaciers in the Andes will be COMPLETELY gone in only 3 more years and the magnetic north pole is actually trying to run away, yes, it's fed up with Shrub and is running away, moving from Canada, more and more north and is expected to reach Sibera within a decade. At some point, when the magnetic poles becomes too out of line, the planet will actually flip orientation, and, that's a bad thing you know. The most insidious thing about Bush/Cheney is that they don't even care about the survival of their own progeny, or even the planet, much less our progeny.

11. I heard someone say they actually don't care. They think that everything
is here for them to use up and there should be nothing left for the future. Or at least it's not their responsibility to worry about the future. I am sorry I forgot who said this but it was about some belief system these people have that really makes them unfit to be in charge of anything.

But I'm surprised they even put a notification on the label.

Soon they'll be selling things that poison you and won't even have to tell you. Oh, wait.....

2. Have you been "an American tourist in France"?
I was in Colmar two months ago, and there were very warm feeling towards Americans. They had just celebrated 100 years since the death of Auguste Bartoldi, designer of the Statue of Liberty.

http://europeforvisitors.com/europe/news/alsace-statue-of-liberty-bartholdi.htm

In general, the French have not fallen into the lie of "either with us or against us".

4. I hear you about the
weakening dollar. It's true that most of our stuff is made overseas.

The American In France....well. So many times Americans bring that attitude on themselves. I was in Belize and another American was bitching to high heavens that she couldn't find contact lens solution in the tiny Indian village market, all they had was Visine. This woman didn't get that in the middle of the frigging rain forest she was damn lucky Visine was even available! She went on and on, loudly, about how uncivilized the place was; typical ugly American. Think I'll travel as a Canadian from now on.

5. Before CD players were made in China
Before CD players were made in China, they were made in Taiwan or Japan... even back in the 80s when I used to know a lot about stereo equipment, most of the best stereo equipment (save speakers) was made in Japan unless you wanted to go ultra high end.

6. okay the american in france thing is just an expression
you know what i meant, you may substitute, "treated like the only thing important about my treatment was sending the bill" or "treated like i was in a tourist trap, except, it was a medical provider trap, all the same, no quality, just pay quick and get gone.

8. I know exactly what you mean
I'm not trying to pick holes, its just that it is so easy to fall into using someone elses words and inadvertently give credence to their mind-set i.e. France = enemy. What you really meant was that you were treated like an American in the US :-)

Season's cheer to one and all

10. Even as the dollar loses its value, we have not had an increase
in the federal minimum wage since 1997!

Washington state just raised its minimum wage to a whopping $7.35 an hour. Wow - time to go out and buy that Hummer.

Some states, Ohio and Kansas, have min wage laws below the federal. Some states have no minimum wage requirement. Why is that allowed?

http://www.dol.gov/esa/minwage/america.htm

We see tax break after tax break for businesses, yet people are losing access to healthcare, college is becoming a pipe dream for more and more, our votes don't count, and we go to war to bring this same system to other poor souls.

Sometimes I really can't understand why we don't revolt.

12. Damn right I have! I used to buy slot cars from England
I could get 2 for $60. Here in Texas the same ones cost $55 each!!! I wasnt about to pay $50 for a slot car.

Now they cost about $100 for 2 from England. I usually buy two for myself at Christmas. You know, the kid gets a new toy car, Christmas scene.

Anyway, thanks W. You've become a *uckin grinch.

when she gave us Ross Perot in 1992. (And I say Perot for Perot. Not Clinton. Perot was dead-on in his premontion of NAFTA and how to repair the economy.)

Women all over the world have found that 15 or 20 dollar bills, tightly rolled, make a cheap and effective tampon.

"The dollar is worthless"! As if!

19. yes it is scary
Everything in Europe is sooo expensive. On one of my trips this year, a friend brought a huge bag of cashews, I mean, like HUGE, enough to feed us for the entire week. Security just about burst out laughing with comments like, "Uh, you know they do sell food over there?" but the prices are so high it's kind of necessary unless you're made of money.

The only thing that is cheap is air fares.
