One Tin Soldier
I posted this yesterday and thought it should be repeated today.

One Tin Soldier

Listen children to a story that was written long ago
'Bout a kingdom on a mountain, and the valley folk below
On the mountain was a treasure buried deep beneath a stone
And the valley people swore they'd have it for their very own.

(Chorus
Go ahead and hate your neighbor, go ahead and cheat a friend
Do it in the name of heaven, justify it in the end
There won't be any trumpets blowing, come the judgment day
On the bloody morning after - one tin soldier rides away.

So the people of the valley sent a message up the hill
Asking for the buried treasure, tons of gold for which they'd kill
Came an answer from the kingdom: "With our brothers we will share
All the secrets of our mountain, all the riches buried there.

Chorus
Now the valley cried with anger, mount your horses, draw your sword!
And they killed the mountain people, so they won their just reward
Now they stood beside the treasure on the mountain dark and red
Turned the stone and looked beneath it -
"Peace on Earth" was all it said.

Chorus

1. Makes me think..
.. is religion about love or hate?

.. is oil a bounty or a curse?

.. so long as people forget, the ends will always justify the means.

2. Sadly, It Took 50,000+ Dead Soldiers...
For that song to really hit home to this country...and the message of the Billy Jack movie. We're in far different times now.

We still have morons who think war and pillage is good and intolerance is a "cool thing". These short-sighted, self-absorbed people haven't really felt what war really does to a country and they'll hide and deny as long as possible. Their immorality grows by the day.

Thanks for posting this great song, and a reminder of the messages of the time that I took to so strongly and hold on to today.

Cheers!

4. At least Vietnam
was not about stealing their buried treasure.
I always liked that song. As a trumpet player I thought that "trumpet players are going on strike to protest the war". "There won't be any trumpets blowing"

3. Yep, and it is worth repeating.
One of my favorites from the Viet-era and a song with a message for all time. Gonna post it to my blogs and websites, as my New Year Wish and ask people to make a resolution beyond the usual and pay attention to ending this war. Military family here opposed to the war, supporting the troops in a different message to bring them home now, member of Military Families Speak Out, http://www.mfso.org/

5. The mountain people were idiots.
"Look, er, valley people, It's just a rock with 'Peace on Earth' written on it. That's the big secret, heh heh. Cool right?!! One of our brainiacs thought it would be cool to have a rock like that in case all of our people were ever slaughtered by plunderers. They'd turn the stone and see 'Peace on Earth' and then look around at all our lifeless bodies and feel really bad...

"Yeah, I know. We were all wasted when we did it."

"Look, it's not even that great of a rock... Here... take it... You can HAVE the damned rock..."
