Scalia Talks Trash ... scary ...
Antonin Scalia, the man most likely to be our next Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, turned history on its head recently when he attended an Orthodox synagogue in New York and claimed that the Founders intended for their Christianity to play a part in government. Scalia then went so far as to suggest that the reason Hitler was able to initiate the Holocaust was because of German separation of church and state.

1. It's not the law but how it is perceived.

4. Yes, BUT
That man is going to be head of the Supreme Court very soon.

Bush will appoint his replacement.

It won't so much be perception, but rather the FACT that the Supremes are becoming exactly what we warned before November...and they are THE Supremes, after all.

2. The fact that this crap Scalia was selling wasn't even picked up
by the media says enough for me. Scalia is exactly the kind of guy who one day may be impeached.

5. Impeached?
As of now, no justice has ever been removed because of his "judicial philosophy."

So, on what grounds do you envision such an impeachment?

Sadly, I think you are being overly optimistic.

9. What I'm saying is that his opinions are just so over-the-top
that in the future he could end up in some serious shit from his bigoted points of view. If I read his statements correctly he is saying that separation of church and state didn't stop the holocaust. the rest of the article points out that it was the closer union of church and state which helped create problems in Germany. Which makes more sense. throughout history any nation that becomes more closely associated with religion cam become a huge problem for it's own people as with other nations. So where does Scalia get his history? he lectures at a Synagogue about the history of Germany and Jews without knowing the history? These are more than opinions he is giving here. I think they speak to his own sense of history and Christianity. The right is hell bent on making this nation a Christan Nation under God. Scalia will love to go along and help any way he can. these aren't opinions of law. How many on the Supreme Court have had problems with separation of church and state? He is laying the groundwork for a radical change in this country. Scalia would love to have the Scalia Court mentioned in history as the court that ended abortion rights and brought the country back to the time of religions in schools and work. This isn't the USA as our founders wanted it. This is an inquisition.

I hope a scandal breaks out with him. I've had enough of his wingnut views.

7. True-
And since Reid has already given him the green light, I don't expect there to be any great dissension in the ranks.

8. Will the nutjobbery of this man never cease to freak me out??
I guess he's just getting bolder.

He can show up at a Synagogue and spout absolute lies -- show an appalling ignorance of recent history -- and still be in line for chief justice???

Thanks for this article. Thom Hartmann rocks.
