I'm intolerant of intolerance...
I'm so confused and conflicted by it.

I feel like such a hypocrite.

Should I turn myself in to the thought police?

9. No, I meant "intolerance"...the act of being intolerant...
not anyone specifically, or in a personal sense. Intolerance, in all its abstract glory.

4. I'm with you
It is a confusing place to be. But, after careful and deliberate thought, it has become clear that part of what the rethugs define as "flip-flopping" is the ability of democrats/progressives to look at all sides of issues. We also tend to be very tolerant of other's opinions. However, the dilemma becomes, should we also be tolerant of those who are intolerant or espouse intolerance? NO!

Watched a re-run of Barak Obama on c-span last night (speaking about his book). He addressed this beautifully. Paraphrasing here, but we can disagree without being disagreeable, and we must stand on our convictions and speak the truth.

So, YES, I'm intolerant of intolerance, and if that makes me a hypocrite, I don't care anymore

I've always found I can depend on Michael Caine. Especially his incarnation as 'Peachy'. 'The Man Who would be King' taught me more than I'd hoped to know.

17. "When we wash, they all go upriver and piss in water!"
"Shocking!"

"We've heard they have two and thirty idols there. So we'll be the thirty-third and the thirty-fourth."

"When we're done with you, you'll be able to stand up and slaughter your enemies like civilized men!"

"A soldier doesn't think. He only obeys. Do you think if anyone thought twice they'd give their life for Queen and country? Not a bloody chance."

"He, with a 5 1/2 hat size, has the makings of a bloody hero."

"Not before the others, not after the others...WITH the bloody others!!!"

11. That's a good question
When you are intolerant of intolerance, it ceases to be intolerance, and it is actually tolerant to do so. This is tolerant because you are actively defending tolerance, which allows individuals to be who they are. Therefore, being intolerant towards intolerance is actually a form of active tolerance.
In any case, it is not hypocritical because intolerance is directed at certain people for the sole reason that they are "different" in some way. The sort of intolerance that you are talking about (intolerant of intolerance) is directed at certain people because of such beliefs which are wrong, not because of who they are or how they live (etc, etc...). This makes it discriminate and fair.

Sorry for the weird wording... I hope it made sense.

14. Domination
Oppression and bullying are not legitimate parts of any culture.
Inequality is not culture.Abuse is not culture.
Abuse bullying and elitism crosses all cultures. It's an independent thing in certain people who choose that way of bad relation, that hurts people and destroys cultures and brings on dark ages.
So bullying or fascism or kings or hierarchies has nothing to do with what makes for the vibrant differences that make a culture a unique culture.

I am very fucking intolerant of people who choose to be bullies and abusers who promote inequality and cronyism.
And it seems when I say this, the people most offended by intolerance are elitists, tyrants bullies abusers and con men.All these things are people with conduct issues who choose to be incompatible with a culture of peace, fairness and sanity. And if these bullies want to dominate and ruin a peaceful community I kick their ass with no guilt, because they chose to to make themselves incompatible with a sane relationships of mutual respect.I owe no tolerance to a person who refuses to reciprocate back to me the respect I offer them, with disrespect.I do not tolerate abusers of my trust, kindness and goodwill.I am intolerant of such anti humane behavior like domination, colonialism, fascism, gay bashing, racism, misogyny, bullying and the exploitation of others, inequality and elitism .These are the toxic anti cultural, anti community behaviors of sociopaths that if unchecked by the intolerance,of the more tolerant people on a culture DESTROYS the worth of any culture..
So if you respect culture,Do not offer the same respect to the kinds of bad choices people make that lead to the toxic social behaviors that systematically and personally destroy the web of connective relationships that make vibrant pluralistic live and let live, cooperative cultures able to happen.

Fuck all the bullies and exploiters of human weakness, human achievements ,our diversity and goodwill.

16. Respect? No, never. How is that even conceivable?
Never would I suggest respecting the agents of intolerance, I just don't want to become one by being intolerant of them.

Thanks for your input.

20. OK. Just be sure you're always right.
If you hate racism, for instance, it's easy to react angrily to racist speech. Just be sure that you don't assume, for the same instance, all rural white Southerner are racist. It's not always true.

I've even heard rumors that racism occurs outside the South...
