Tsunami Deaths........ Blame the Muslim countries.........
This is the gist of what I heard on the radio on the way home tonight. I was listening to the Tammy Bruce show on the same station which carries the other hate purveyors. I paraphrase, 'the majority of deaths were in Muslim countries, countries which do not have a free market system, which are not democratic, with governments which are corrupt and do not regard human life as sacred, as we do here in the United States.'

The number of deaths is appalling, and preventable, and Muslim countries are primarily to blame. She also mentioned the 15,000 deaths in France during the last heat wave. Concluding, socialist systems cannot protect their citizens, it is a failed system.

Anyone would agree that the death toll is appalling. The majority of countries affected are poor, third world countries. Yes, the Indian ocean lacks an early warning system like that in place in the pacific. The pacific system was not initiated until after a 9.2 magnitude quake in 1965 spawned deadly Tsunami. Many will die for the price of hind sight.

However, vilifying the victims of this horrendous human tragedy in an attempt to justify the United States position of moral superiority over the Muslim world is simply unconscionable. One republican caller suggested that the U.S. give aid with strings attached, presumably that the Muslim countries suppress popular hostility toward the U.S.

What is next, God caused the earthquake to punish the Muslims for their sins against a Christian nation?

Anyone with an opinion of Tammy Bruce, this was the first I had heard of her show. Her page is listed here.

http://www.tammybruce.com/

Apparently she is openly gay, a feminist and a former NOW president, and a "progressive." She is certainly not a liberal from the tone of her broadcast and the info on her page.

GOP, piling it higher and deeper. :evilfrown:

The hurricanes skipped the blue counties.
In all seriousness, I don't get blaming (insert religion or ethnic group) for natural disasters...

6. I agree, the host conveniently sweep this aside.
She concentrated on the numbers of dead, emphasizing the Muslim countries losses. She did mention that the largest country affected was India, which is a democracy, but continued on her diatribe against Muslim countries nonetheless.

The host seemed particularly preoccupied with Indonesia. She states that the country harbors terrorists sympathetic to OBL, and the population is very anti-American. The whole thing left me seething by the time I got home.

10. Hmmm...I wonder if this idgit knows
10% of Indonesia is Christian? (I take it they were the 'saved' ones). Twenty percent of the population are non-Muslims.

I see why she'd be concentrating on Indonesia, as the epicentre was near there...so basically she's saying that all these people of other religions have to pay for the 'evil' Muslims? :grr:

Burma is mostly Buddhist. Sri Lanka, by the way, seems to top the death toll list so far.

Is it possible to write the FCC? Is hate speech protected under US law? I just can't believe any of that crap is on the airwaves.

11. Loss of the fairness doctrine......
For those that can stomach conservative radio, sporadically listening to the verbal trash as I do, I would have to say it is protected.

Someone called in to the show as I pulled into the house and was talking about the number of Christians in the Muslim counties affected. They stared to discuss persecution of a minority and I just could not listen any longer.

29. Thank You For Your Report
As usual, the biased media in this country looks at things through rose-colored glasses with little other than sensational pictures and blanket assesments of what's going on. This tragedy has hit different countries in different ways and Indonesia stands to be the worst hit...sitting right above that 9.0 quake and an infrastructure that can't handle the most basic of government services, yet any warning or any disaster relief.

Those poor people are on their own and you turn on hate radio and hear how this is some "divine" retribution. In fact, I heard someone on C-SPAN just question the Sri Lankan ambassador (a Tamil Hindu by his own definition) and called him a moslem...blissfully ignorant and racist...but that's encouraged in today's USA, Inc.

Hopefully a lot of the wealth that has piled up in that area can be used to assist those people and the recovery will be quick.

The total ignorance many in this country have about other nations and cultures is almost embarassing...except when one considers the source...and another reason I firmly believe ALL Repugnicans are totally morally bankrupt and immoral.

I just got an email from him. Luckily, he & his family are okay, but he says he believes that the official count of 12,000 dead is like about 1/3 the actual total, meaning 36,000 dead.

9. If we are going to go way out on a limb
I say it's bush fault!
Just think about all those bombs hitting the earth in Iraq, all that energy has to go somewhere. I think the energy traveled until it found a weak spot and caused the earth quake, and the tsunami.
So there you go, it was the chimps fault. He just killed another 23000 innocent people.

17. Tsunamis don't hit that region
I just read an article on it because I wondered why they didn't have an early warning system. It's because tsunamis aren't as common in that part of the world as in the Pacific.

Besides, I live on the Oregon Coast and a 30 minute warning is kind of comical. I did read that you only need to get up 25-50 feet, so I guess I run to the dunes behind my house. Another article said if people were on the beach during tourist season, most of them wouldn't know what the sirens were for anyway and wouldn't know what to do either. If a tsunami hit here, we'd have just as much devastation and death, unless we got a four hour warning from an Alaska quake or something. Of course, if there were a four hour warning for the people overseas, I'm sure we would have figured out how to alert them too.

27. Tammy Bruce, professional pseudo-progressive...
...If you ever need a "progressive" to go on Fox and bash "other" progressives, she's your man.

As an aside, the deaths in France were not because of "socialism", they were because areas where the usual summer temperature hovers in the 70's (and thus few people had air conditioning installed) had a sustained heat wave up in the 90's. We have heat-related deaths every summer here too, but since we regularly have these waves people know what to do to get through them. The French weren't really aware of the problem until it was already on them.

But hey, since when have progressives RW fembots like Bruce ever let gacts get in the way of nursing a hate-fest on France.

30. No, it is real simple.
She is an (allegedly) openly gay, pro-choice, gun owning, pro-death penalty, voted-for-President Reagan Neocon. She believes that the world should be made over and subjugated in the name of the extreme Right Wing and fundamentalist Christianity, with a particular focus on their "Other", the Muslims in the world, a fear dating back to the Christian Crusades and manifesting itself in one form or another since that time.

Suggested reading (although old, it was prophetic even then):

America's Messianic War Cult
