Think the Christian Right hasn't called for murder? Think again.
"The AFA (American Family Association) think that homosexuals in this country should be thrown in jail for sodomy, but they also argue that the Bible prescribes death for them. AFA literature states that "...the Bible is unambiguous and consistent in its prohibitions of homosexuality."
http://www.afaexposed.com

The Christian Coalition through its publications promoted the sale of Legislating Immorality a book that calls for the death penalty for homosexuals. Lynn said "Here is Ralph Reed selling hate
literature...at the same time he says that violence is never justified...I do not remember Martin Luther King peddling hate literature."

"It is interesting, that termites don't build things, and the great builders of our nation almost to a man have been Christians, because Christians have the desire to build something. He is motivated by love of man and God, so he builds. The people who have come into institutions are primarily termites. They are into destroying institutions that have been built by Christians, whether it is universities, governments, our own traditions, that we have.... The termites are in charge now, and that is not the way it ought to
be, and the time has arrived for a godly fumigation." - Pat Robertson

14. That's just a theory
I guess it's written somewhere in the bible, that termites don't build things. So it must be true!

And this Building Theory has lots of holes in it. These termite mounds are far too complex to be built by stupid little insects. Their existence is therefore a proof for godly intervention, and Buildingism is just another atheistic plot against the one true faith of Christianity.

28. They are in for a rude awakening
Edited on Tue Dec-28-04 12:49 PM by firebee
The one unforgivable sin is using the lord's name in vain and by that, I don't mean saying "God Dammit" or "Jesus Christ". By this... I mean people who use God, Allah, Jah or whatever you'd like to call the divine entitiy as a destructive weapon against other people aren't forgiven for using the divine entity as a weapon against other people. Also, Forgiveness can't come to those who don't hold themselves accountable or take responsibility for their sins. Contrary to popular belief... the sacrifice of a messiah isn't a get out of jail free card for us.

Besides... How is Christ going to return if he's continuously dying for our sins? Personally, I don't think it's fair for me to pawn off my judgement on another man, regardless if the man is a messiah or not. I, myself, choose to face judgement based on my own actions.

4. Jimmy Swaggart threatened to kill gays
A few months ago Jimmy Swaggart said he would kill a gay man if he ever looked at him:

http://www.365gay.com/newscon04/09/092004swaggart.htm

"I'm trying to find the correct name for it ... this utter absolute, asinine, idiotic stupidity of men marrying men. ... I've never seen a man in my life I wanted to marry. And I'm gonna be blunt and plain; if one ever looks at me like that, I'm gonna kill him and tell God he died."

I just learned some thing this week -end. Local public school does not talk of Darwin. Seems it made to many parents up set. Course the school this kid was in said the world was 10,000 years old and God made it in one week. I think the right wing nut cases are winning. At this rate we will be a third world country in no time.

9. That old chestnut always cracks me up..................
the world is only ten thousand years old. What an utter disregard for Science. These people would rather believe than think. Rather than do a little research and try to learn the origins of life on this planet, they'd rather put all of their faith, blindly, into a book written by men, translated numerous times, each time losing some of it's original translation. That's it, no thinking involved. Pretty easy for them. A great angry father figure in the sky is going to punish us if we don't sing his praises 24/7. You'll burn in a great fiery pit eternally if you're bad. :eyes: What morons. Total intellectual shutdown.

8. Fundie Christians are such liars.
First, termites build huge mounds, as someone showed in a picture above.
Almost none of our Founders were Christians. Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Franklin, and most of the rest were diests. At one time Franklin was an outright atheist, who later converted to a vague sort of Deism. He mocked a belief in the divinity of Jesus from his deathbed, though he said he would soon know for sure, so he wasn't really worried about trying to figure it out. It was commonly claimed in the 1800s that none of our first six or so presidents were Christians, and in the mid 1800s Christians used this as a reason to put "In God We Trust" on coins. They argued that if America fell right then, historians would never know it had become a Christian nation, since none of our Founders were Christians.

Christians have always rewritten history to claim that great figures were fellow believers, and favored them. Emperor Constantine legalized Christianity, and Christians now claim he was a Christian, against all evidence to the contrary. They claim Darwin converted on his death bed. They claim John Wayne became a Christian just before his death. None of those are true. They try to claim now that George Washington was a Christian because he belonged to a church, and ignore the tiny detail that Washington never mentioned Jesus or Christ, and that his own minister told people several times that Washington was a Deist. Washington used the terminology of Deists, talking about "Divine Providence" instead of God or Jesus or Christ or any Christian terminology.

I believe that these right-wing Christians are so shaky in their beliefs that they have to lie to steady their faiths. They convert dead people, they fight off any challenge to their belief, they threaten gays, etc, because they are full of doubt, and can only fight that doubt by fighting others who challenge their beliefs. Typical transference.

I should say I know a lot of sincere Christians who are truly better people because of their beliefs, and that Christianity itself is maybe the most beautiful religion ever preached. But sadly, sincere Christians who follow the teachings of Jesus are far fewer than these cult-worshipping fundies who killed America.

Many Christians say they're Christians simply because they don't want to go to Hell. Quite selfish, in my opinion.

32. YES!
I have complained about the same thing. Usually, these offensives are contained in mini-vans.

Recently, I passed a mile long line of traffic waiting to turn left, and I noticed a van with plenty of Jesus stickers on it. There was about 2 car lengths of space ahead of his vehicle, so I stopped, put 'er in reverse, and parallel parked in the spot in front of him.

He was furious. He slammed his hands on the wheel then raised them up towards the sky. I stuck my head out the window and said "God Bless You for saving this spot for me" My comment did not soothe his rage.

Until then, I had no intention of turning left. I had to go about 4 miles out of my way to get back to where I was headed. Oh, and Yes ...

He did flash the symbol of his IQ as he passed in a cloud of blue smoke. I thought .... How precious ..... He is trying to communicate.

half the cars you see have some religious thing going on, like the little piss-on-Ford dude praying before a cross.... that one really annoys me, not so much for the proselytizing aspect, but because these fundies are always stealing someone else's culture and claiming it for themselves. Christmas, Easter, the entire Old Testament, the cross, a triunal god with a murdered son who rises from the dead, marriage, America, and now piss-on-Ford guy, all stolen from other religions or cultures. Grrrr!!!! Go build something of your own!

Alright, it's alright, I'm better now.

Well, one of our greatest inventors sure wasn't--the man who "built" a lot of the modern world we enjoy so much.

Thomas Edison was a militant agnostic, if not an outright atheist.

Edison referred to religion as "bunk" and "damned nonsense," and said it should never be taught in American public schools.

He gave a newspaper interview (in the NY TIMES) so anti-religious that the stockholders in his company got worried. His biographer Wyn Wachhhorst wrote: "Edison rejected three fundamental tenets of Christianity: the divinity of Christ, a personal God, and immortality."

In 1898, when President McKinley publicly thanked God for helping him win the Spanish-American War, Edison wrote to his second wife, Mina: "But the same God gave us yellow fever, and to be consistent McKinley ought to have thanked him for that also."

Unfortunately, Mina was a devout Methodist, which caused some problems until the Edisons finally just agreed they would disagree about religion.

49. The "we are a Christian Nation" idea annoys me.
I am sick of hearing that "our nations laws were based on the 10 commandments" Oh really?

Is it illegal to place another god above the Jewish god?
Is it illegal make a graven image?
Is it illegal to take the lord's name in vain?
Is it illegal to forget the sabbath?
Is it illegal to refuse to honor your mother or father?
Is it illegal to commit adultery?
Is it illegal to covet another mans wife, or his possessions?

So, 70% of the 10 commandments are not laws of our nation.
What about the other 30%?

Thou shalt not kill
Thou shalt not steal
Thou shalt not bear false witness

First of all, I can think of no governments who do not have these laws. Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, or secular. Why do these common sense laws bear the Christian mark?

So, 70% are not applied, and 30% are universal laws practiced by nations of all religious faiths. And this is proof that "our nations laws were based on the 10 commandments?" Only church folks would be gullible enough to swallow this argument.

Now, lets consider the 30% of the commandments that actually are laws, and apply their principles to the war in Iraq.

Thou shalt not kill. oh its OK, they are not white and do not believe in Jesus

Thou shalt not steal. oh, we are liberating them, not stealing their mineral wealth.

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor. Weapons of mass destruction. Imminent threat. Justified pre-emptive strike, Iraq funded Al-Queda.

hmmm, The Christians wanted this war with Iraq, and have violated the only 30% of the precious 10 commandments contained in "our nations laws" in the process.

26. I met that asshole "rev phelps"
He came to our town about the time nationally organized racial hatred, and "families first" type groups began to establish their presence here. Incidentally, one of the first "suspect groups" to open headquarters was an outfit called "freedom ministries"

phelps was in town to support an amendment to the city charter that would have made discrimination legal. The funding and legal assistance for this effort came from several out of town, and out of state groups; all of which flew the Christian banner.

While he, and a minion of his demons held bizarre signs, I asked him if it was true that he and others disrupted Mathew Shepard's funeral by threatening and condemning all those who went there to attend. He said it was, and began fluctuating some incoherent series of biblical quotes. I interrupted and told him that he was nothing more than a common asshole which was full of shit.

He lunged, and tried to attack. I was immediately surrounded by strangers and pulled back into the crowd of folks who were there to protest his dumb ass.

I cannot imagine a case where non-christians would gather at a religious bigots funeral and intentionally disturb those who were there to pay respects.

Evidently, those gawdly acts are reserved for the christian missionaries.

Other congregations were attacked the following Sunday by protestors supporting phelps. They held signs of stick figures having sex, and verbally attacked folks who were trying to go to church. Despite that, the Christian community in our town was almost completely silent about the issue.

I cannot begin to fathom the animus of these folks.

29. I agree with this guy...
My last vestige of "hands off religion" respect disappeared in the smoke and choking dust of September 11th 2001, followed by the "National Day of Prayer," when prelates and pastors did their tremulous Martin Luther King impersonations and urged people of mutually incompatible faiths to hold hands, united in homage to the very force that caused the problem in the first place.-- Richard Dawkins, The Devil's Chaplain (2004)

Now I'll just sit back and wait for the usual bleatings of the Christophiles and supernaturalists: the whole problem is simply that the Religious Reich is not made up of "real Christians."

If they were "real Xians," of course, they'd be good liberals. And some glorious morning they'll all convert...probably about the same time I find myself in Paradise with 72 virgins.

I have to agree on another point as well. Jesus would have been a liberal at the very least, and would likely be considered a communist by his followers today considering the recent sharp slant to the right.

I believe that he would have loathed conservative and patriotic fundamentalism.
