Can anyone show me where to get info
about workers' rights in the event of a disability? My partner is on medical leave and getting long-term disability pay due to a serious illness, but does hope to be able to return to work some day. Well he got a call yesterday from the HR dept and they told him they were going to have to hire someone else and if he wanted to return to work later he could have the job back, if it was available. In other words, "You're fired." At least they waited until "after" Christmas. Well, it seems to me that firing someone because they are ill should be kind of illegal or something. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

1. Hmm
I think most companies have provisions to pay for it for up to
6 months.. not sure though.

BTW do you know where I go to change my password?

on long term disability you can be replaced. actually there is a time limit on short term disability also. that is basically how i lost my job,i was laid off when i was released to go back to work then never hired back. if your partner wants to get back to work it will probably be somewhere else. he may be wise to contact a lawyer and see if there is anything he can do if they refuse to hire him back.in my case i suppose i could have sued on age discrm. but i didn`t want to work for a company that thought that little of me.

5. Ain't it the truth...
my hubby got second and third degree burns on both legs summer of 2003 on his job and his boss implied they'd wait for him to come back, he had a job for life...etc, etc.

When he was released by his doctor to go back to work he was (more or less) told he wasn't needed, they'd call him when they had a job for him. He'd still be waiting if he hadn't decided to go find another job, gotta pay the bills. :-)

I tried my best to get him to sue (negligence, never let a drunk or drug addict work with DYNAMITE in a boiler), he wouldn't budge, didn't want to get his buddy, who was responsible, in trouble.
