Toby Keith: CNN "very liberal."
The Country music star entertained troops in Iraq earlier this year and is "urging his fans to spend 2005 looking for truth in the news."

He says, "You think when you go there that bombs will be going off everywhere... It's nothing like that. There were people in Baghdad shopping, going to the market. It was bustling."

"I learned a lot over there. I think people have to be cautious about how they get their news. I'd always trusted CNN to be my source and never really thought about it. But now, to me, CNN gives a very liberal, slanted view of the news."

Would he be referring to the same CNN that helped bu$h in his march To War? The one that will not utter a word about vote fraud in the US while breathlessly following it in Ukraine?

More.

:wtf:

86. Is HE that schmuck who sings the Ford Truck Man TV commercial?
I always sing "ah'm a butt-fuck mannn..." when they come up.

Don't know why, I know it's immature (and mildly homophobic to boot) but I can't help it. I just assumed he was some guy playing a country music star. I never imagined that the Ford Truck Mannn guy was an actual country music star.

I know that current pop-country music sucks ass (it's basically lousy 70s rock with a Freeper 'tude and a twang) but the Ford truck adverts sound like a self-parody, they're so bad.

3. He sounds like a complete ass
He went to Baghdad to entertain the troops, complete with zillions of bodyguards and the military watching over him and all the other entertainers, and he thinks that gave him an expert's view of Iraq?

He sounds like he's almost as arrogant and narrow-minded as the chimp.

I had no idea what an idiot he is.

Thank God I live somewhere where any exposure to country music is completely voluntary.

I can't speak for CNN US (we don't have cable, and gym only puts on Faux News), but CNN in Europe was relentlessly pro-Bush when I was there this summer. Nauseatingly biased.

Edited on Wed Dec-29-04 07:23 PM by JohnOneillsMemory
'Stars' have been tapped to do recruiting for a long time.

Ole Toby seems to have been signed up to hold the line in the blue-collar red-state zone so there's plenty of cannon fodder.

There's a campaign going on right now to point the finger at the media (ha!) in preparation of the bad military news coming out of Iraq before 1/30/05.

Toby Keith--big time Bush Licker. He must have been mostly in the Green Zone or was told to give a rosey scenario when he's interviewed. So he's someone whose word you take with a grain of salt. Plus his music sucks anyways--heard far more better country music and his is just not it.

9. Perhaps he is trying to start this.... (?)
Immigration to Iraq

The flood of conservatives continues to pour into Iraq following Bush's victory in the U.S.

"We just can't wait to live in a theocratic utopia so we thought we'd move here to Iraq where Bush's vision is becoming reality," said Ted Nugent.

“Ditto,” added Kid Rock.

Iraqis were baffled by the influx of conservatives who keep asking for directions to “the nearest Hummer dealership and Charles Schwab offices.”

“One guy just stood there at the airport. I said ‘what are you waiting for?’ and he said ‘you are supposed to throw flowers at my feet – I am your liberator.’ So I slapped him and told him to get into the damned cab before we both get shot,” reported Haddam Ibn Ali.

Many conservatives said they were moving to Iraq “just to piss off the liberals.” And they looked forward to having their children attend faith-based schools in Iraq which were ‘recently rebuilt.’

“They haven’t built a new school in the US in 4 years so we moved here. ‘Follow the money’ as they say,” laughed Susan Goodcookie formerly of Missippi. “The locals have an interesting sense of humor. When I ask where the new schools are, they just laugh, then comment to each other in that foreign language and then laugh some more. So I still haven’t found the new schools.”

Many conservatives were lured by the idea that they could send their children to brand new schools in Iraq, built entirely by tax dollars coming from Blue states but the real kicker was the all faith-based curriculum. The school day, when the schools get built, will consist of 6 hours of prayer, 1 hour of bible study (just the butt kicking parts, not the ‘cheek turning’) and 1 hour of creation science.

Among the new settlers are Daniel Klopfarb, CEO of Monster.com, “I have been such a strong advocate for outsourcing that I thought I should try it myself. I moved my job and my family here and now pay myself 78% less than I would have had to pay myself in the US. It is saving us big bucks!”

103. a * supporter
Kid Rock made it clear to Puff Daddy and pals in the Hamptons last weekend that he was a Bush supporter. Evidently when it rained on Monday (7/5/2004) of the long weekend, several people staying in the area to attend P. Diddy's big 4th of July party decided to go to a movie in town, including Kid Rock. When the entourage decided on Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 911, the rock star protested saying, "I don't want to see that, it's all propaganda.” This sparked a prolonged political debate in front of the theater where Simmons claimed that Kid Rock said, "Russell, don't you understand, everything we got in this country, we got from fighting … I'd rather go to the bar across the street." He then refused to go into the theater with the others and said goodbye. A couple of hours later, Simmons returned to his parked car where a note was found on the windshield that read, "Vote Bush. Bush Rocks," allegedly written by Kid Rock. Puff Daddy, is of course an adamant supporter of the Democratic ticket, and is leading register to vote efforts around the country.

Toby Keith is laughable. I will never buy a Ford truck because every time I would see it it would remind me of those idiotic commercials. He can kiss my ass and then after that maybe I might shove a boot up his ass..or whatever stupid OTHER comment that it was he made.

48. Yes and on 9-11 here in America , there were people shopping,
and going to the mall all over America. Does that mean we should fluff off the tragedy of what happened in NY, DC, and PA? How dare that liberal CNN report on what happened in a couple of isolated places on 9-11! After all the rest of the country was perfectly safe!
<sarcasm off>

Toby should stick to music, because he's no political genius.

What Toby doesn't understand is that he didn't get any more of a realistic picture of what is happening in Iraq than FOX news decides to show us. If he had been doing his concert from Fallujah in late November he would stfu and write a protest song.

82. Here's the deal:
There are really only about 3 conservative entertainers: Toby Keith, Ted Nugent, and Britney Spears.

Under the Fairness Doctrine, we have to hear as much crap from these three assholes as from all the liberal celebrities combined.

So we have to grin and bear it, knowing that this is what it takes for our folks to get an equal shot at stating our beliefs on national television and radio.

Got it?

Fear Dims Christmas Eve in Baghdad
Many Iraqi Christians Avoid Mass as Guards, Barricades Protect Churches

By Jackie Spinner
Washington Post Staff Writer
Saturday, December 25, 2004; Page A01

For the first time in as long as even the old women could remember, Iraqi Christians prepared for the Christmas holiday with heart-thumping sadness and dread. This was the year to scan the sanctuary for the safest place to sit in case a bomb exploded. Or not to go at all.

Many Christmas Eve services were canceled or changed to daylight hours, and police cars guarded the churches on Friday night. Priests expected to deliver their Christmas messages to nearly empty churches. People shopping for presents, decorations and trees did not linger on streets for fear of being targeted by insurgents.

At a bookshop in Baghdad on Friday, Wasan Warda, 35, watched her husband, the owner, wrap Christmas gifts for a Muslim customer. "This is the first Christmas we will not go to the church for the service," she said.

"Put yourself in my shoes," her husband said. "Are you going to take your wife and kids to church with this danger?"

Warda began to cry. "But you know how important Christmas Mass is for us and for the kids," she said.

OK, this is basically a rhetorical question here, but why is it OK for conservative-leaning country music artists to express their opinions, but not ok for liberal music artists?

No one raises a hissy fit when some crackpost conservative country music artist gives their political opinions, but you would have thought the Dixie Chicks committed a cardinal sin for speaking out against Bush.

Darn that liberal media, huh?

112. Right Wingers still call CNN the Clinton News Network
When I was down in Freeperville (Burlington, NC) a few months back, everybody there was lamenting the demise of CNN, calling it the very liberal Clinton News Network. (They also complained about how far left the Democratic Party has moved since the 60s.... eek, we need better publicity!)

But, 4-5 years ago, the heads of CNN went to meet with Newt Gingrich and the RW gang on how to appeal more to RWers that were defecting to Fox... the results were a sharp right turn for CNN.

Unfortunately for CNN, RWers still didn't trust them and they turned off liberals & progressives in the process. So, they have been bleeding viewers.
