WooHoo! In your face Portugal!! |
|
source from www.airamericaradio.com
Americans spend about twice as much per person for health care as do Canadians, Japanese or Europeans, according to the World Health Organization but, as Rost points out, "the U.S. has shorter life expectancies and higher infant and child mortality rates than Canada, Japan and all of Western Europe except Portugal."
*pfft* And to think that they didn't want to get conquered at one time.

Our HR person says it's good for emergency procedures, but if you're planning an elective procedure, prepare to wait a while. In her opinion, it has it's ups and downs.

20. that's the key elective |

like plastic surgery and the like. Knee replacesments also take time... BUT if you only had to pay half as much as you do (and company does) would you wait longer for elective stuff. I believe so.

Makes me wonder what the people in Europe do to get basic care?
America: The best health-care you can't afford.

the Contracting firm I just got done working with had Kasser (sp) and they are not in Monroe LA only in big towns like Atlanta. So the perm members had to go to Arlanta for basic care. They could only go to the emergency room of a hospital in Monroe if they were having a heart attack or some seriouse like that.

8. In Italy, at least, people who can afford it go to private doctors. |
|
They look down on the public health care system. However, this was told to me by an Italian friend whose father was wealthy so that surely affected her outlook.
I grew up in a military family and we sometimes went to civilian doctors, though I can't say we ever got bad care from military doctors. You do usually wait a long time in the waiting room when you go to see a military doctor and of course you can't choose your physician. However, when I had surgery, I certainly saw as much of my surgeons before and after my hospitalization as I ever have with civilians since. And every civilian opthalmologist I've ever seen has remarked on what a good job the Navy surgeon did with my eye surgery. Given all that, I believe public health care systems can be very good.

Canadians like the socialized healthcare, but what they don't like is the problems with it. Most Canadians say it needs to be revamped...and in my opinion it does. There are very silly stories out there about things people have gone through. However, that being said if the Federal government paid their share it would improve. BUt the problems aren't just monetary - like a freeper would have you believe. There are administration problems.
But, hardly any Canadian would be for getting rid of social medicine.
Also, next time a freeper makes an argument about Canadians coming to the US for healthcare - tell them the only reason Canucks can get in the hospital is because most in the states can't afford to.

Does he mean that the only reason Canadians go to US hospitals is because they can't afford to?
Afford to what? Wouldn't it be cheaper to stay in Canada for the care?

I'm saying that if Healthcare was affordable in the US hospitals would be full of those getting the treatment they need and Canadians wouldn't be able to get in.

11. Hmmm, I think my health plan already covers prayer. |
|
They pay 100% of the costs for me to pray silently to myself that I don't get sick.
They do not, however, cover any disease that ends with they word: "itis."

23. I guess, being the working poor person I am, |
|
I am lucky to live in Wisconsin.
They have a managed care program called Badgercare that I must say is excellent.
You get your choice of plans, and the choice of phsyicians is pretty good. Thank god our long time family doctor takes it.
It is too bad more states couldn't offer this.
But honestly I cannot complain. The managed care company that we are under is better then we had back in the Clinton era when we were making good money.
