Each American is giving 12 cents to the relief effort in the Indian Ocean |
|
Edited on Tue Dec-28-04 07:44 PM by JohnLocke
Bush pledged $35 million in relief. According to a July 2004 estimate of the U.S. population, there are 293,027,571 living in the United States. Only 11.9 cents per person.

And Colin Powell is indignant that some of us are embarrassed.
He's going out with a real bang.
Should've been a whimper.

That idiot at the UN can go pound sand. Private donations from the US will be more than the rest of the world combined, public and private.

6. Laughing. I can tell you live in Florida |

;) Hurricane relief? Is that what they're calling it in Fla? I love you John!
Thanks for doing the math. After laughing with you about the Florida fixation on hurricanes, I hang my head in shame and go write a check, as advised to do by a tomb-stoned freeper.

Stupid hurricane season. I'm going to give money, too - won't be much, but it's my contribution.
Better than 12 cents, eh? ;)

What a mess. What a horrible nightmare. On top of all the ugly, wicked things going on, they come with the incredible $0.12 insult.
Twelve cents... won't even buy you a gumball these days.
Stunned.
But I really did appreciate the unintended comic relief- immeidately checked your profile because having relatives in Florida, I know how that goes!

Every citizen owes it to the nation to check out that website and tell 10 people to take a look at it (and click the comparisons below the BIG number).

|
Let's see ... (1) Millions of people made homeless and without potable water ........... $35 million (2) Kissing the ass of Smirk and rubbing genitals with other Bushbots .... $42 million (3) "Compassionate Conservatism" (the rarest of items) ................... priceless

12. Politicization of the earthquake-tsunami in America/U.S. |
|
From what I heard of the corporate propaganda networks (cpn's) today - the hosts are braggin about the help that is going there from the U.S. - it would be interesting to know how much of the help is coming from independent organizations and churches vs what has been arranged by our leaders on behalf of all citizens and paid for through the taxpayers. We just can't let them get away with giving the impression that Bush did it.
It would also be nice to know how much of the help is from independent, non-government volunteers with money raised independently. I can't bear to hear any hint of any of the pimps on cpn's giving Bush credit for help that he and the cabal don't deserve.
I am embarassed about the 11.9 cents. I will, for now, assume that it is an interim figure until we figure out where to direct our money.
This morning on C-Span a caller suggested that the countries that owe us money - like Russia - send their money in exchange for a debt write-off (with the implication being - instead of us sending money).

21. U.S. relief should be in the billions, not the millions . . . |
|
if we can afford to spend $200 billion on the Iraq war, we can certainly scrounge up a billion or two for relief efforts . . . anything less is miserly and unbefitting a great nation . . . or are we still a great nation? . . . actions speak louder than words . . .
