4. That's not fair
The press said he was "clearing brush." And he probably paid someone minimum wage to put the brush there for his photo op. He's creating jobs at home! (Having a fake ranch is hard work.)

He needs cancer kids to work it for him.

9. I have to agree....
What do you suggest Bush does? Would it really be of any help to the people affected by this tragedy to have him 'touring the devistation'? Irregardless of who the president of the US is at a time like this it makes no difference where he is, just that he knows of the situation and is sending relief aid and assistance as requested by those countries.

10. There are some things he coudl do
Instead the leadership has been taken by true and caring organizations....

Some of the things he could do is order some AF assets to transport food and rescue workers from around teh world.

He could also ask his friends at the pharma to DONATE certain meds that will be needed and are in short supply starting with IVs , or have those same pharma produce a batch of rehidration solution in solution, not the usual means of distrubutioon since water is polluted.

Offer the ICRC some Naval support assets to transport disaster supplies from donor countries.

In other words tehre are things he could do... and I may add other Presidents HAVE DONE.

He has a tad more power than yuo or me, and for the record if I coudl I would go to the disaster area and offer my expertise.

15. Many of those things are being done...
Edited on Tue Dec-28-04 07:47 PM by Streetdoc270
Johnson and Johnson and Brystol Myers have already donated medicines and supplies.

SAR assets are being readied for deployment.

How do we know what offers or phone calls he has made.... we are not given full details of every moment, and before anyone hits alert on me, this is not defending the man but the Office. Any president in this same position could realistically do no more than what has been done no matter what the location they are in.... what would be different if he were in DC?

On Edit: From FEMA Situation Report for Emergency Managers 12/28/04

Additional US assistance includes three disaster assistance response teams from the US Agency for International Development sent to Thailand, Indonesia and Sri Lanka to make damage assessments. The US Pacific Command dispatched three US Navy P-3 surveillance aircraft from Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan to Utaphao, Thailand to conduct survey operations, including a possible role in search and rescue efforts.

President George W. Bush also sent letters of condolence to Bangladesh, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, India, Maldives and Malaysia -- all South Asian countries affected by Sunday’s powerful earthquake and tsunamis that have killed more than 26,000 people.

He's watching the coverage very closely on Fox News.

Cut the guy some slack. Sure...he's Christian, same with the most of the US. That's why the disaster didn't happen here. Duh.

13. natural disasters
It seems to me the list of things to blame Bush for is long enough that we don't need to add being responsible to natural disasters to it. I advocate criticizing on those things he can do something about.
He absolutely should offer more assistance than he has done so, and we as individuals need to do the same.

14. Who said the tsunami was Bush's fault?
The complaint is that he is (as usual) not interrupting his precious vacation at the ranch. Instead he is "monitoring" the disaster there. Hell, we're monitoring the disaster here, so by definition we're doing as much as the President. Oh, except for writing a few letters of condolence.

33. It would be nice if he would at least try to *appear* concerned about
the events in asia. The outpouring of compassion that the rest of the world showed the United States after the events of 9/11 really meant a lot to us during that difficult time. This disaster absolutely dwarfs 9/11 in scale. "Phoning it in" from Crawford sends the wrong message to the rest of the world, and only reinforces the world-wide negative image of Bush, America and Americans.

25. Well it's not something to indict him on
What, if he was a decent human being, would he do? With his money, I guess fly there and help the relief effort while witnessing. But, unfortunately, he has a country to run. Or rather his administration does, while he sits on his ass in Crawford.

Sure he could go, and that would be massive PR, but I'm sure the risk is preventing him.

Yea, the risk. Of course it's the risk. I bet he overwhelmed with sympathy for these people.

Who the fuck am I kidding... the man could go into a pretzel-induced coma and the administration would still function on the same level.

29. It's hard work, ya know! Hard work!
In all seriousness though, I recommend Bush read this scripture at least 3x/day:

"Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: Depart from me, ye that work iniquity."
