Bush should have a low-key inauguration during wartime
I have been thinking about this lately and wouldn't it be prudent for Bush to scrap his plans for a fancy inaugural since we are in a "time of war and terror"? Our local newspaper came up with an editorial the other day asking the same question.

His 40 million plus costs for the inaugural could help many tsunami victims overseas, or help alot of people here in the US.

If Clinton were spending this kind of money during wartime, he's be crucified.

Let's suggest that Bush skip his inauguration (since none of us will be able to stand to watch it anyway) and donate the money to the victims of the tusnami.

Wouldn't that be the "Christian" thing to do and since he's the moral values president, I think we should all demand it.

1. Even the Oscars dressed down for the War
Everyone walked in the back door, and they didn't even have a "Red Carpet" that night.
He should do it in the Oval office with 41 and Co and Rummy, Condi and Dick

4. Um, excuse me, but when do you suggest we roll tanks through DC?
Moa got to do. Mousillini got to do it. Stalin through Gorbi got to do it. And the list goes on.

A simple party is no way to inaugurate a man appointed by God.

Yeesh!

15. we are going to roll tanks down the streets of DC
the whole affair is going to be the shrub showing off his mighty c*ck to the world. I'll be amazed if there isn't at least one ICBM on display as well just to remind everyone watching.

5. The entire display is obscene

and those who are supporters are so happy to see it. It reinforces their idea that America is the capital of the world, and Bush is the King of the world.

It is really and obscene display of wealth, greed and coveting.

Our first family

and don't they all look so humble and compassionate, according to the Bible?

6. You are being "reasonable" which they don't understand......they DO relate
To southern speak...something like, "It is tacky to be spending so much money on the Inaugeration when the troops don't even have the proper armor and protection.
It is also tacky to be spending so much when people have lost their jobs and/or their homes.
Just plain tacky.

9. "Tacky" . You are spot on target there!
Tacky for spending $40 mil
Tacky decorating in the White House
Tacky comments made by ** about nearly everything
Tacky way he acted at the Clinton Library dedication
Tacky to take down Clinton's portrait for Christmas decorations.

Tacky things written for the twins @ their Convention.

8. I agree
But don't forget, he's a ward president. He makes decisions in the Oval Office, in foreign policy matters, with war on his mind.

No wait, he wants to be the "peace president."

LOL!

In all seriousness though, I agree with you. If he truly feels that one of the most somber acts a president can do is commit troops to harm's way, his farce of an inauguration should reflect that.

And I don't think the inauguration should be taxpayer funded. I think the Bush/Cheney 04 campaign should pay for the entire shabang.

a man who wants to relate to all people would, but bush only relates to the rich and powerful.

a man who wants to show humility would... oh, who am i kidding?
