5. The dumbing down of America |
|
The crappy media sensationalism and reality tv shows have made our culture here so damn lazy. With the internet, there is so much information right at our fingertips, the truth is at our fingertips, but most Americans would rather watch Survivor than news from BBC.
I know so many people who talk down about those from other cultures. I was in Iraq the first time around, in 91, and these people, the POOR people, would come out and give us bread. In Germany, you don't see trash all over the damn street and beer bottles all over the place. Here, you can be in a car accident and no one will stop to help. It ticks me off that no one has pride in our country any more. Their idea of pride and patriotism is all about narcissism, screw everybody else. We are supposed to lead, not fucking throw trash on the ground, and worry about celebrities in Asia when 60,000 people have died and more are missing. This is what we get because our president was for the Vietnam war, but had the luxury of sitting that war out. It is sad when we as a country take on the personality of a leader like this.
Pardon me for my rant, I think I am pissy tonight.

that's more than the number of Americans killed in the entire Vietnam war ... that's more death than the human mind can comprehend ... and it's going to get much, much worse ... http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=578&e=1&u=/nm/20041229/ts_nm/quake_dc

8. It was only 2 hours ago that I heard 55,000. |
|
I know there will be a lot more people discovered, and there will be a lot of people who die for lack of clean water and spread of disease, and other disaster consequences. I can't imagine what the total will be when this is all over.
Thanks for the update. Horrifying that 68,000 are already dead.

That is completely disgusting. 50,000 people died and all they're worried about is a few celebrities.
