Bush Biking, Relaxing at Ranch
By Deb Riechmann Associated Press Writer
Published: Dec 28, 2004

CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) - Besides monitoring the devastating earthquake in Southeast Asia, President Bush is biking and strolling around his ranch here and pondering tax reform and other goals in his second term.

"He's clearing some brush this morning," deputy White House press secretary Trent Duffy said Tuesday, adding that the president and first lady also planned to host friends at the ranch.

"He's doing some biking and exercising as he normally does, taking walks with the first lady, and thinking about what he wants to accomplish in the second term." (more)

that M-f'er sure has a lot of brush to clear.

on edit: no I'm wrong, he was clearing brush for an entire month before 911. On 911 he sat in a chair and listened to children reading a goat story while 3000 died.

89. He sure didn't have a freepin problem
running to Florida where bro jeb was awaiting to 'deliver' the vote.
There was nothing that he did, nor could have done, by going to Florida other than to make it look like a plausible explanation as to why Floridians may possibly want to vote for him.

So if he portends to be such a big fan of disaster relief--and by all accounts this is the largest natural disaster in a generation--then why is he not making a public statement stating the sorrow that all Americans feel for the victims of this tragedy.

What a bastard.

101. Make a Statement that the US is Helping with the Relief effort
and encourage all Americans to donate what they can to the effort. Call for global support and if possible use military resources to help with humanitarian effort.

This is the worst natural disaster ever and W. is sitting on his ass picking his nose. It makes Americans look like a bunch of apathetic dolts.

Retired Gen. Wesley K. Clark, who as the military's
top European commander helped supervise NATO's efforts
to respond to a 1999 earthquake in Turkey, said the
United States has unique military capabilities in
reconnaissance and logistics management that can be
useful in the current crisis. He urged Bush to take a
higher profile. "Natural disasters happen," Clark
said. "One of the things people look for is a strong
response that illustrates America's humanitarian
values."

Some foreign policy specialists said Bush's actions
and words both communicated a lack of urgency to an
event that will loom as large in the collective
memories of several countries as the Sept. 11, 2001,
attacks do in the United States. "When that many human
beings die -- at the hands of terrorists or nature --
you've got to show that this matters to you, that you
care," said Leslie Gelb, emeritus president of the
Council on Foreign Relations.

make a public statement that acknowledges the suffering and tragedy that has befallen over 50,000 people on the planet he occupies.

What is he supposed to do????????
A gesture towards humanity would have been nice, but then what did I expect from *. He is responsible for the deaths of 100,000 people and counting in Iraq and that will never be mentioned either. He hasn't attended one soldiers funeral to date. What is he supposed to do?

He's pointing out that * made sure to donate FEMA funds in the billions to Florida before the election because he needed the votes but only 15 million offered to aid the tsunami victims in Asia. He spends 15 million in Iraq killing people in 2 hours. Like I said, the man is a disgrace.
He is spending 40 million on his second coronation.

So I'm afraid I don't deserve you compliment. Matter of fact, I do hate bush, and I'm hard-pressed to apologize for feeling that way. He's earned it.

Besides, if a president can elicit responses of love and admiration, it follows that the opposite is true, wouldn't you agree?

Anyway, thanks for replying to my previous question. I appreciate it. Cheers.

103. Well, gee, ya think maybe this hate against Bush is...
ya'know...justified?????
Instead of being a "world leader" like he claims to be, Bush goes back to his ranch after informing the world that he's giving a paltry 15 million in aid, and loaning them the other 20 million only after someone at the United Nations accused America of being stingy.
Not to nmention what LastLiberal in PalmSprings brought up in post #46 about C-130's and their low cargo carrying capacity.

Then there's this little gem from the White House:
www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1457177

where they couldn't resist attacking Clinton over this disaster.

So yeah, I think the "hate fest" here is completely justified.

15. How About Spending a few Iraqi Kill Dollars to Save Lives ?
(snipped from another thread)

There are lots of ways to look at this: for example, Bushitler is about to "ask" the US Congress to approve another $80 BILLION for Iraq and Afghanistan for 2005: this works out to be almost $7 BILLION per month.

As such, the current spending rate of $4.5 BILLION per month to murder Iraqis alone is a good estimate.

Remember that a BILLION = 1,000 MILLION, so this turns out to be $4,500 MILLION per month to murder Iraqis.

If you divide $4,500 million by 30, you get $150 MILLION per day to murder Iraqis.

Now it is a simple matter to divide $150 MILLION per day by 24 to get approximately $6 MILLION per HOUR to murder Iraqis.

Using this new unit of currency (the "HIMC", the "Hourly Iraqi Murder Cost"), it is easy to compute how either the first US offer of $15 million, or the updated offer of $ 35 million for aid in SE Asia only amount to several HIMCs.

HEIL THE FLESH-EATING BUSHITLER DYNASTY !!
MAY THE REICH OF THE BUSHITLER DYNASTY LAST FOR 1,000 YEARS!!

Bush Monitors Earthquake Damage From Ranch

President Bush spent part of Monday at his Texas ranch monitoring devastation from a deadly earthquake in Southeast Asia — a replay of his post-Christmas vacation last year when he was monitoring damage from an earthquake in Iran.
Bush sent letters of condolence to Bangladesh, Thailand, Sri Landa, Indonesia, India, Maldives and Malaysia — all countries affected by the Sunday earthquake and tidal waves that have killed more than 22,000 people.
"He's been monitoring it very closely," White House spokesman Trent Duffy told reporters at a briefing here. "He's seen some of the images on television."
On Dec. 26, 2003, when Bush was beginning his 2003 post-Christmas vacation here, his advisers were keeping him abreast of an earthquake in southeastern Iran that left more than 26,000 dead.

This guy watches a shitload of TV.

For all those asking, Well, what's he supposed to do? I'll answer:

Get on the goddamn phone. TALK to the UN, the Red Cross, the aid agencies, the leaders of the countries involved. BE AN ACTIVE LEADER. Don't rely on your aides to do everything while you "clear brush" for god's sake -- get some INFORMATION FIRST HAND for a change.

He's the PRESIDENT -- no one's going to hang up on him!

Make some decisions! HAve some meetings! WORK!!!!

It's becoming clearer and clearer that Bush is a figurehead, just like the Queen of England.

He does nothing, ever.

46. Sending a C-130 is like giving a sip to a dehydrated man
I was in the Air Force and Reserves a long time ago, and when a disaster occurred the President (Nixon, Ford, Carter and Reagan) immediately ordered relief supplies flown in on many of our C-141 Starlifters and the C-5 Galaxies. These are huge aircraft, and fast. I also flew C-130s, and while they are decent workhorses, they hold about one-third the cargo of the C-141 and fly half as fast.

In other words, by sending C-130s Bush has done the bare minimum necessary to say he's assisting relief efforts.

Today's heavy cargo lifter is the C-17 Globemaster, which carries almost as much as the C-5 and can land almost on a runway almost as short as the C-130. THAT's the aircraft Bush should be sending, even if they're filled with supplies and personnel from civilian relief agencies. Isn't that what he's been advocating -- the "armies of compassion"?

18. It's sickening.
Does he even realize how much beach erosion has taken place because of this earthquake? It's an environmental nightmare, and he sits there doing nothing.

I'm laying the environmental consequences of this disaster squarely on the shoulders of *. If you sit idly by while the raping of these beaches occurs, then that makes your responsible.

35. I was talking about tornados and global warming
I don't think it's related to earthquakes, but I don't think Bush has done enough to prevent disasters like this. With all the money we have, why should countries like Sri Lanka have to pay for their own tsunami warning systems? Should we chip in to help out these poor countries? The blood is on all of our hands.

43. I said no such thing...
I merely asked a question that seems pertinent to the discussion. I have no idea what if anything has been asked of the U.S. or of the U.N. concerning natural disaster warning systems. I did read that many seismic centers in the U.S. tried to contact some of these countries to warn them but were not able to reach people that could do anything about it. Who's responsible for their lack of organization?

77. natural disaters are not born in a vaccuum
EVERYTHING and EVERYONE IS CONNECTED in nature. and what is more important is the response of the one person who represents this country, and every citizen in its borders.

On 911, EVERYONE around the world responded in shock horror and empathy. This tsunami makes 911 look like a walk in the fucking park and our POTUS vacations on a fucking ranch.

The shamelessness of this murdering looting lying lazy piece of shit is breathtaking.Beyond the pale, beyond words. He critizes Clinton by saying:
"The president wanted to be fully briefed on our efforts. He didn't want to make a symbolic statement about 'We feel your pain.' "

He can't say it because he doesn't feel anything at all, except greed and apathy. He's disgusting.

29. Oh yes you are absolutely right
60,000 human souls swept from the Earth in an hour is not a matter of any importance. Let me follow the example of the "president" and go for a bike ride.

Pray tell what is more important than 60,000 human lives snuffed out in one horrifying hour, millions homeless, millions of lives still at risk due to no clean water or food - what do you think is more important than that?

79. Oh, he shouldn't be impeached, he should be
tried for war crimes and given the death penalty.

Chomsky: Which incidentally is very much like Srebrenica – which is universally condemned as genocide -- Srebrenica was an enclave, lightly protected by UN forces, which was being used as a base for attacking nearby Serb villages. It was known that there’s going to be retaliation. When there was a retaliation, it was vicious. They trucked out all the women and children, they kept the men inside, and apparently slaughtered them. The estimates are thousands of people slaughtered.

Well, with Fallujah, the US didn’t truck out the women and children, it bombed them out. There was about a month of bombing, bombed out of the city, if they could get out somehow, a couple hundred thousand people fled, or somehow got out, and as you say men were kept in and we don’t know what happened after that, we don’t estimate .

But what was dramatic about Fallujah was that it was not kept secret. So you could see on the front page of the New York Times, a big picture of the first major…step in the offensive, namely the capture of the Fallujah general hospital. And there’s a picture of people lying on the ground, soldier guarding them, and then there’s a story that tells that patients and doctors were taken from – patients were taken from their beds, patients and doctors were forced to lie on the floor and manacled, under guard, and the picture described it.

The president of the United States is subject to death penalty under US law for that crime – alone. I mean that’s a grave breach of the Geneva Conventions, Geneva Conventions say explicitly and unambiguously that hospitals must be protected, hospitals and medical staff and patients must be protected by all combatants in any conflict. You couldn’t have a more grave breach of the Geneva Conventions than that.

92. Even in early dementia, Ronnie would have made a statement.
Somebody may have had to write it for him, but he would have learned his lines & performed with feeling. Never a great star, he remained a journeyman actor as long possible; at least, he had a skill.

Bush can't be trusted to tape a simple message of condolence--the smirk keeps giving him away. (Of course, a live message would be unthinkable.)

This is just symbolic, but it's part of his job. Is he actually working on organizing any substantive help? Only the Bush-lovers think so.

My God! The elections over. Does this guy ever stop pushing that "tough-guy, wild west, brush clearing John Wayne" image?

Why don't they just say in the article that "he mosied on over to the saloon for a sarsaparilla, six-guns on his hip as he looked for any liberal terrorist varmints and chewed on his self rolled cigar".?

Jeez! I half expect to hear that whistle tune from the Clint Eastwood spaghetti western while reading this drivel.

This guy is from CT isn't he? He did go to Yale, didn't he? He is scared to death of horses, isn't he? He wears $2000 suits, doesn't he? He never saw combat, did he?

And yet, there was John Kerry, defending the media mantra that "he" was a phony.
