On January 20th, cancel cable & the local paper. Switch utility companies.
And any mainstream magazines.

What other things can we do?

1. Well, I don't have cable. I have satellite TV
and I'm not about to give that up. I don't subscribe to the local paper. And I can't switch my utility company because there is only one available where I live. Any other suggestions?

2. Can't cancel the local paper.
Even though it's a worthless piece of shit.

I need to keep track of who dies, who's doing what to whom, etc.

I bought a woodstove recently. Now I can pay a local dude with some trees on his property for my fuel, instead of only EvilPowerandLight.

Ya do what ya can.

6. There are many ways to starve them.
Don't drive, how about that?

My local paper provides a needed service. Cancelling it would harm the GOP just a tiny, tiny, amount. It would harm me, my friends who are reporters and photographers, and the community at large if it were gone.

Now... IMPROVING the local paper, returning it to local hands, or even starting up a competing paper would go a lot farther.

Not watching TV and driving less are both excellent ideas.

What I'd really love to do is get some solar panels and a hookup to a windfarm.

9. Actually, I was thinking 'windfarm' too..that it's a good day to switch
to Green Mountain Energy (100% wind) from Reliant (part of the BFEE, I think).

13. How would canceling my newspaper subscription starve the GOP?
Call me confused.

4. My passive solar house has been working great this winter.
I put in a high efficiency furnace too. It barely has run all winter. Our country has a long way to go as far as energy gluttony.

Sorry for being snappy...this post just caught me at a bad moment. I shouldn't have snapped like that.

I've just toally fed up hearing people push the no cable or tv line like that's an answer to our problems.

Once again, my apologies.

8. In keeping with the 'not-one-red-cent' idea, just thought I'd mention thes
as a good day to finally 'get around to it' if you've been thinking about cancelling these types of regular purchases.

14. We did that 2 months ago
You know we don't miss it at all! Visit the library more often, I find I'm spending more time with my painting, spend more time in the gym, all of a sudden we have extra time to do things. TV is such a vast waste land, we rent movies, get our news from the internet and we are looking for more ways to cut back and make life simple.
