WTF! The stranding was the second in Tasmanian waters in just 24 hours --
Edited on Wed Dec-29-04 05:56 PM by evolvenow
-- a mass beaching of whales and dolphins on King Island, in Bass Strait on Sunday resulted in the deaths of 98 animals.

This many marine mammals beached and dead....very suspicious. What kind of testing is going on in this area....IMHO seems like sonic or nuclear, very deadly, and the timing related to the tsunami...this needs to be investigated.

1. If there's anything the data collection at Vienna re: proliferation
will pick it up. Lots of international scientists. Can't claim some US conspiracy in this case.

That's a hell of a lot better than taking a chopper and going to take a look.

3. Thanks, I will look there. Pilot whales descend very deep and if a huge ex
plosion, low frequncy sonar/nuclear? happened, the pod might head for the surface too rapidly and it kills them. I hope scientists will be doing necropsies on those beautiful animals. There has been testing in that area, many whales and dolphins have died over the last 12 months...it is NOT normal. I do not believe these events are unrelated. So disturbing.

4. These marine mammals have been living in the ocean for millions of years..
I think there was a blast, or series of blasts, so devasting that it fatally injured huge numbers. Entire pods, families may have been wiped out. These are some of the most intelligent and beautiful animals on this planet.

5. Cover your ears...military active sonar
Edited on Wed Dec-29-04 05:54 PM by Atman
Kind of like the Office of Special Plans, designed to spread false news stories. When "we" found out about it, "they" claimed to have put the lid on it. Only later we found out it wasn't true. I think something similar happened to the military active sonar, supposedly put on hold in 2003. It is an ultra-high decibal long range underwater sonic boom which scientists said would kill or deafen even the largest sea animals. Maybe BushCo lied about this, too.

===

Active Sonar: How It Harms Marine Life

Military active sonar works like a floodlight, emitting sound waves that sweep across tens or even hundreds of miles of ocean, revealing objects in their path. But that kind of power requires the use of extremely loud sound. Each loudspeaker in the LFA system's wide array, for example, can generate 215 decibels' worth -- sound as intense as that produced by a twin-engine fighter jet at takeoff. Some mid-frequency sonar systems can put out over 235 decibels, as loud as a Saturn V rocket at launch. One hundred miles from the LFA system, sound levels can approach 160 decibels, well beyond the Navy's own safety limits for humans.

Evidence of the harm such a barrage of sound can do began to surface in March 2000, when members of four different species of whales stranded themselves on beaches in the Bahamas after a U.S. Navy battle group used active sonar in the area. Investigators found that the whales were bleeding internally around their brains and ears. Although the Navy initially denied responsibility, the government's investigation established with virtual certainty that the strandings were caused by its use of active sonar. Since the incident, the area's population of Cuvier's beaked whales has all but disappeared, leading researchers to conclude that they either abandoned their habitat or died at sea.

How long will it take to understand that when you disrupt nature on such an enormous level, that there are massive repercussions, literally that are deadly to thousands upon thousands.

I know someone that was protesting these tests, they actually launched LFAS in a shallow "protected" bay, with people swimming, dolphins and whales present. She was not even submerged and it nearly killed her, she has never fully recovered.

10. No, earthquakes generate low-frequency soundwaves.
This is what confused them. They still have their land-animal instincts to get away from extremely low frequencies to avoid earthquake effects, so they end up disoriented and beached. These secondary strandings are from AFTERSHOCKS.

World's biggest quake of 2004 in antarctic waters
Wellington, dec 24 (qna)- an 8.1 Magnitude earthquake that struck in antarctic waters today - the biggest recorded in the world this year - would have devastated a city had it been much closer, according to a new zealand seismologist. 'It is a whopper,' Ken gledhill, of the seismological observatory in wellington, told radio new zealand, speaking of the quake felt in new zealand and australia. 'This is what they call a 'real earthquake.'' 'There are not many earthquakes of that size on the planet,' He said. 'It's a long way from us, thank goodness. Anything of that magnitude you don't want to be near them, that's for sure.' New zealand is one of the world's most earthquake-prone countries and there are strict legal construction regulations to try to limit damage to buildings and casualties. But gledhill said: 'even with really good building standards, if you have a shallow quake of that magnitude there's really nothing you can do about it.' He said an earthquake of that size near a major populated area would produce massive landslides, building damage and casualties. The subterranean quake, 33 kilometres below the earth's surface, was centred 700 kilometres southeast of hobart, in australia's tasmania state, where it was reported to have been felt, and 820 kilometres southwest of new zealand's southernmost city of invercargill. There were no reports of damage from the early morning quake, though the seismological observatory said it received 70 reports of it being felt over a wide area in the south island. A south island police officer said it was felt as a rolling movement rather than a sharp jolt. 'It was like being on a little boat on the sea really,' Sergeant peter payne told radio new zealand. The quake struck north of macquarie island just before 4 A.M. New zealand time .(Qna)

Russia test fires second intercontinental missile
Moscow, dec 24 (qna)-russia today performed the second test launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (icbm) this week as the country modernizes its nuclear defence capabilities. A fifth generation topol-M missile weighing 47 tons was fired from the northern launch centre at plesetsk and hit the designated target on the kamchatka peninsular in the far east, military officials said. The launch rounds off a series of tests of the mobile missile complex, which is due to be to deployed from next year. It will gradually replace the ss-18 heavy missile, the workhorse of moscow's nuclear arsenal that has been in service since 1988. Russia on wednesday carried out the first test launch of this type since 1991, firing a missile with a dummy warhead from the urals region 6,000 kilometres to the kura range on kamchatka. Russian president vladimir putin said this year that russia would ensure its nuclear defences are modernized and maintained as the key means of preventing any country from 'blackmailing' it.(Qna)

17. That's kinda far fetched
A blast how enormous? It was a spent rocket with a dummy warhead.

Even if it did have enough energy to move a plate, wouldn't you think it would uncork an earthquake just south in Tokyo, where 4 plates converge, and not 10,000 miles further away?

13. Normally, dolphins and whales return to the surface, without getting
"the bends" or sick or injured. Yes, magnetics can get scrambled...but I have studied dolphins and whales for years, in the wild,....this is anomalous behaviour. My gut tells me, but need more info.

http://www.nature.com/news/2004/041220/full/041220-13.html

The low-frequency sound waves we use in subs and experiment with are the same kind that can be generated by an earthquake, but far less powerful think of the sound of dragging a washing machine over concrete and magnify it by a few billion tons. They are confused by this incrediibly huge sounding hum that is coming at the and try to get away, thus beaching themselves. Think of being surrounded by ultra-bright dazzling stroboscopic beams in every direction and only seeing one way out, even if it was almost certainly dangerous.

At certain stress points I have no doubt whatsoever that we can cause a quake with an explosion, even a relatively small nuke of a few kiltons would do, like shaping a diamond by cutting along lines of cleavage in the crystal. But causing one with a bomb on the other side of the planet? That isn't possible. Even the kind of energy released in one of the big H-bomb explosions in the 70's isn't enough to do that kind of damage. It would either require an Extinction Level Event sized explosion or a near hit. The earth is much much much bigger than people realize.

The Hand of Man is not a factor in every tragedy. Sometimes things happen without us or our anthropomorphic Gods. They just happen.
