Is it a contradiction to be for increased penalties for cop killers...
...but be against hate crimes legislation.

That seems to be a contradiction of the right wingers. On one hand they say that murder is murder and therefore if someone is murdered because they are gay, it is no different from any other murder. On the other hand they believe that if you murder a cop, it is deserving of special extra punishment because somehow that murder is worse than other murders.

Thoughts?

1. Looking for mental and logical consistency
among the RW is like looking for the unicorn.

3. So it will require a virgin maiden to find consistency in the RW?
Sorry, I just love that myth.

7. In the world of many conservatives,
they are , in name, pro-law-and-order. Thus, cop killers should get death penalty-type verdicts.

However, under hate-crime legislation, the victims of the crimes are usually viewed as lesser types than police (symbol of law, order, the right and good).

Hate-crime legislation targets are usually gay or racial minorities, hence many (not all) conservatives are not pro "hate crimes" legislation.

Along the lines of, "As long as the right people are dying", perhaps a flavor of that in their thinking?

2. Learn to use the word 'Hypocrite' a lot when talking Right Wingers.
There grasp on reality is rather loose at best.

5. I think it was a clause
added in when the death penalty was earned by killing a Judge. Others said; "Hey what about us we are people too." Mostly though to protect chicken-shit Judges.

IMHO

8. The point?
Is the Death Penalty going to deter people from killing police officers?

9. Ordinary citizens are not asked to place their lives on the line daily.
Yes, killing a cop is different.

10. Should Security Gaurds Killings...
also be DP cases?

How about Prosecutors, Judges, Politicians?

The list of "special" people is not a short one.

Does the DP deter any killings?

11. Do you think cops who abuse
Edited on Wed Dec-29-04 09:00 PM by XanaDUer
the authority they are given over rank-and-file citizens warrants greater punishment above and beyond those given to average citizens?

Thus, cops who are caught, say, selling contraband or confiscated drugs, or assaulting or using unnecessary force against citizens; should they be given stiffer penalties, as well?

12. First of all, they don't force them to be cops.
Second, 95% of cops never fire their weapon in the line of duty in their lives. Also, if you live in urban areas, your chances of being killed are greater than cops.
