Inauguration..why have one if you are already IN office.
Edited on Wed Dec-29-04 09:58 PM by indianablue
The swearing in OK but I do not understand if you already IN office why you should have some great big party be it Republican or Democrat.

I do not see the need to spend countless dollars on security for absolutely no good reason.

Some low key parties with cronies OK but all this extravaganza ?

I do not like Bush by no means but i woudl say the same thing if Kerry was in his second term.

4. Before this election
I didn't even think they HAD second inaugurations if you won re-election. I was surprised to find that out.

Seeing as we are in the middle of tearing the shit out of a country halfway around the world and killing people there and having our service members killed, seeing as we are in the grip of a record-breaking budget deficit and the economy sucks, I would think it would be wise AND quite appealing to the "little guy" if the bushies came out really openly about a plan to really scale-down the festitivies, etc. Boy they would be able to milk a lot of good PR out of that. Plus it'd be the right thing to do.

But no. They can't get away from being tacky, ostentatious, unfeeling.

10. And what was going on during Clinton's second inauguration?
And from what I understand, the costs for this one break all records.

My point was we are involved in a war and the economy SUCKS. It woudl be prudent to scale things down. He'd get great PR out of it, too, something quite unusual for bush et al. But no, they are too stupid and selfish. It's ALL about them.

12. My guess is..
Because he is a smirking, egotistical, maniacal S.O.B who only cares about himself? {Sorry, I'll restrain myself now :)}

It is very like him though; throwing a huge $45 million party while soldiers are off dying in his war.

(I can't believe it's more Clinton bashing by those twits. Clinton had his problems, but it's rather obivous that * is far worse. In all aspects.)

20. Agreed...
...the freeper mentality just can't seem to let Clinton go, despite their recent "victory." I see it over and over and over and over again, ad nauseaum.

16. When Clinton did it
He used money left over from the first one. Clinton also limited private donations to $100 as opposed to Bush and his supporters. From the Washington Post:

The individual donations ranged from $25,000 to $100,000. Corporate amounts ranged from $10,000 to $250,000, which is the maximum amount the committee has decided it will accept.
.
.
.
Thomas F. Petway III, of Jacksonville, Fla., donated $100,000 to the inaugural committee. Petway, chief executive of Zurich Insurance Services, was also a major campaign fundraiser for Bush, raising more than $200,000, which earned him a "Ranger" designation in the Bush campaign fundraising organization.

James A. Haslam II of Knoxville, Tenn., donated $50,000, as did his oil company, Pilot Corp. Haslam is the father of Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam. John W. Childs of Boston, president of JW Childs Associates, a private equity investment firm that manages more than $3 billion of equity capital, gave $100,000.

The inaugural committee has established two categories for major donors. Sponsors contribute $100,000, and underwriters contribute $250,000.

Both levels give donors access to inaugural balls, as well as to lunch and dinner with Bush and Vice President Cheney.
