Muskogee, OK explosion last night may have been caused by bomb
Edited on Wed Dec-29-04 10:03 PM by karlrschneider
I've heard from several people who claim to know that the Yaffe Iron & Metal recycling center that blew up last night killing 2 people (I'll link to the original thread after I finish typing here) was accepting a lot of material from the McAlester, OK bomb-manufacturing plant (they are one of if not the largest munitions factories in the country) and believe that one or more bombs may have been in one of the truckloads of stuff they throw into the melting furnaces. This makes sense to me, because I can't imagine an oil-fired furnace could blow up with a force that we felt here 22 miles away. If this turns out to be true, it scares the shit outta me...how many OTHER bombs might have been "lost"?

edit: here's the link to the original LBN thread

12. Woo...you must be near York & Chandler, sorta?
I heard a bunch of windows downtown were blown out...which isn't hard to believe 'cause it shook our house 5 miles NORTH of Wagoner at Snug Harbor! ...

14. Yes , Karl.
We are 5 south of Chandler and 3 East of Spalding Park. No broken windows etc. here. The fire Captain's mother lives across the street and had 2 of her windows blow out. Neighbors both east and west of us lost a window each. :nuke: :scared:

3. ouchee . . . that's a biggy blast. But my question would be
why in God's name, would you take in scrap metal from a munitions factory??? and NOT inspect it???

6. I don't know, but I -do- know the owner of the company personally,
I lived in Muskogee for 10 years. I've tried to call him a few times today but can't get in touch, which is understandable. They get dozens of truckloads of scrap in every day, and I imagine it would be logistically difficult if not impossible to closely inspect every chunk of metal. But of course this is just rumor & speculation for now, although I can't imagine any other explanation that would be logical.
Maybe the FBI can do some forensic work to determine what really happened...

7. I'm just surprise that it wouldn't even have a two second report.
If I remember correctly a town's near by Firework's company (one of the best know in the world) basically blew up I heard about it once on CNN I believe. Was a few years back of course when the News channels were not shadows of themselves like they are now.

Thanks for the link

11. I think I remember that one, was in souther Ohio? Didn't it kill a bunch
of people? I remember looking up the town in my atlas at the time, seems like it was right on the Ohio river...unsure now though.

13. Actually it was Western PA a small town about 20 minutes from
Ohio... New Castle is the name of the town.

I think it was one guard that died. Caused lights to go out and town shook a lot. mind you the factory is about 3 miles from the actual town (or something like that) but everyone felt it.

8. Here in Springfield Mo it still hasn't made the newscasts
unless I've missed it. Nothing in our morning paper, either.
