Pat Robertson reveals what Political Correctness is really all about
Edited on Thu Dec-30-04 12:58 PM by ck4829
Pat responds to the question “Certain denominations are beginning to accept homosexual behavior in the church. Do you feel that it is for benefit, political gain or social acceptance?” sent in by a 700 Club viewer. His response was, "I think that we have a pressure in our society right now called political correctness where it is not appropriate any longer to criticize anybody for their religion, their lifestyle, their race, their creed, their color, national origin, disabilities, or anything..."

6. More bestiality obsession
"And so, if somebody has a quote lifestyle, that's their thing, and if somebody said, 'I'll make it with a duck', well, you know, who are you to criticize them."

Thanks for reminding me that today is a good day to donate to PFAW.

And a vente latte with a yummy Santorum foam atop for Rev Pat!

22. "Make it with a duck?" WTF?
Hey, I have been around a good bit, Rev. Pat, and that is a whole new concept in perversion -- beyond gerbils -- and so I would like to ask: How did that concept lodge itself in your soul?

Please answer in 25 words or less.

10. This is like the essence of conservatism.
The world has just gotten too complicated for some people. Oh! For the days when one could insult other groups and laugh about it! It's just too much to keep up with what to call everybody, what not to say. There is much more clarity when it's just you, a gun, and a deer.

11. Political Correctness is a rightwing term.
I remember hearing it first when relating to the term Ms. (instead of Miss or Mrs.).

As usual, we liberals ignored it (the term 'politically correct') at our own peril.

Now it's an accepted mainstream term.

Pat is a...

Never mind.

16. The struggle of social morality vs religious morality
A strong religion provides a firm grounding for morality for a society. However society grows and learns. Sometimes it discovers that what it once considered moral may in fact be immoral and conversely what may once have been immoral may actually be moral. Strong religions tend to be fixed by doctrine. Often doctrine claimed to be carved in stone (literally). Thus religion cannot change (at least not quickly).

This forms the basis of the struggle between society and religion. Religion is a social construct that both guides and follows society. It is much like e-coli in our bodies. It helps us but can be a disaster to us as well. When we progress socially religion tries to draw us back to its forms. This can be a positive influence in that it can keep our pace reasonable so that individuals can adjust to the new norms. But it can also be a strangle hold when progress runs afoul of some of the particular religions idiosynchracies.

At one time religious dogma ruled society absolutely. The Age of Reason shattered that hold. But religious institutions still operate under the same structures that existed when they ruled. The echos of that control still exist within our society. When the social progress becomes too much for some to keep up with this echo becomes strengthened and may rise up again to full strength. Attempting to reassert control over the society and return us to its protective smothering hold.

18. Nope
The people that listen to him probably feel as though he spoke up for them. They know right and wrong when they see it. Modern morality has become a swamp of immorality in their opinion. Right is right and wrong is wrong and no amount of so called progress can change that (in their opinion).

Progress does not come to all at the same rate. The more enlightened (perhaps a predjudicial term) are able to see the sense of progress while the more fixed and dogmatic believe that morality is a definable set concept and not open to variation over time.

27. which is funny 'coz they replace "good and evil" with "saved and unsaved"
if you're in the "club," you can do whatever you want: kill hundreds of children, shoot up doctors and actors--everything is excused because you've accepted JAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYZZZZUS (not to be confused with that Nazarene long-hair Jesus) into YORE PUHRSONAL LAAAAAHHHHF. That's what makes fundamentalism so dangerous: everything is permitted to those in the club!

30. Go back to arranged marriages???
"In the Old Testament and the New Testament boys and girls didn't make decisions like this, they were betrothed by their parents. We've got a couple here at Regent University whose parents arranged the marriage and they're very, very happy. I honestly think if we went back to that kind of thing you'd have a whole lot less problems--It'll help. I think it would cut down the divorce rate." –700 Club, February 14, 2000

32. Only two of those things are choices: religion and creed
The other things people have no control over.

How can someone criticize a person for something over which they have no control. He wants to be able to criticize someone for their color? For their disability?

Un-focking-believable!

. . . not appropriate any longer to criticize anybody for their religion, their lifestyle, their race, their creed, their color, national origin, disabilities, or anything..."
