The replacement of quality by quantity.
That our society is a throwaway society in all things whether cars, refrigerators, wives, husbands, cheap goods from Wal Mart, is well known. What has also become apparent since the bullhorns of the rightwing started blaring during Clinton's tenure is that this obsolescence has reached our public discourse with a bang.

Many of the op-ed columnists for the written press or the talking heads of the TV newscasts would fail an elementary geography or history test.Yet they sit there opining about things that they can barely understand day after day admiring their own infallibility. The best examples of this are Tom Friedma of the NYT whose columns look like they could be facsimiles of each other with just the venues changed.Talking heads like Fred Barnes are even worse if that is possible for one to conceive.

Yet, these men and women continue to pollute our airwaves and our minds with junk. The quality of mind needed to think about issues of importance simply does not exist. The flood of images and talk overwhelms a sane person. There is simply no escape for sentient beings.
