Poll question: Nixon or Bush II which one would you rather have as president? |
|
Edited on Thu Dec-30-04 01:54 PM by WI_DEM
Yes, those are the only two choices. Sorry. What an imperfect world.

compared to the Chimpadministration.
At least Nixon had SOME redeeming qualities

4. I think Nixon would be just as bad now |
|
A Nixon unconstrained by a liberal leaning Congress and the Warren court would be a nasty thing indeed. Probably just as nasty as the bastard who's in the White House now.
It's the system -- not the front-man...

10. I disagree, Nixon was a long term thinker- he thought in the future. |

Clinton was more conservative than Nixon or Ike in many areas.

13. Good point but I still voted Nixon. |
|
The Clean Air & Water Acts, EPA, Endangered Speices Act, the opening to China and the negotiations with the USSR all come to mind when I think of Nixon. Now Bush II is reversing all of that work.

Many here who are making these GWBush Nixon comparisons don't know what they are talking about. Most Dems were not as dispirted in 72 when McGovern lost as they are today over Kerry not winning.

25. That is what I try to point out to all those wishful thinkers who say Bush |
|
will fall like Nixon. But some of the progressive legislation during that period was introduced by Nixon himself. Clean Water Act- many of the health, Safety, and esp Enviro legislation came from Nixon.

Dude was nasty but TRES INTELLIGENT! People respected him (out of fear and for his intelligence). He had Kissinger's number as a weasel. Crook fur sure but he was not a nihilist like the *ster. Actually started EPA and came up with negative income tax for the poor. How low we've sunk!

he wouldn't be bending our military over in iraq and all the other places we're in trouble...he'd have some ulterior motive, i'm absolutely sure about that...but probably just a bit less sinister than the chimp's...

I used that question in my congressional campaign |
|
30 years ago, who would have thought we'd miss Nixon? But also back then, there was a creature called a "Moderate, and even a Liberal Republican. The Clean Air and Clean Water Acts were passed under him.
Now remember, I absolutely hated Nixon. I was with a bunch of Yippie's at his second inaugural when we threw 15,000 dead rats at his motorcade.

19. Nixon actually did some good things |
|
If you can ignore the Vietnam War and his paranoia, he did some good things. He actually created the EPA, which did a respectable job then. And he didn't try to destroy Social Security or Medicare. He opened diplomatic relations with China.

He founded the EPA and opened the door to China. He's the Republican president I actually respect the most, minus the being paranoid and corrupt part.

|
Bush with his many personal and policy failures is somehow viewed as more attractive to a certain segment of the voting population. A modern day Nixon would pay politically for a screw up.

I'll answer like this.
Imagine what Nixon would have done with a right-wing GOP congress and Senate.
Now make your decision.
