This was my fav freep quote in the thread....
Edited on Thu Dec-30-04 04:32 PM by TwoSparkles
"I am trying to figure out why I should give a rat's *ss about them."

See--Bush's foot dragging and frugal attitude when it comes to the disaster--is total pandering to his evil, selfish, compassion-less base.

Bush's slow pittance of a response, which seemed aloof and unsympathetic, was deliberate. He was playing to his homies.

They're all bottom-sucking carps!

Freepers are not human. Bet they'll cry like little babies next time the Missippi floods their homes, or a hurricaine wipes out their houses in Florida, or tornadoes rip through their trailer parks. And of course, they'll be first in line for government handouts to rebuild in exactly the same location.

60. No, Meme. It is for real. We like to refer to these asshats as
Freeptards, i.e. Hitler Youth. You have seen one of the good threads. Let me give you an inkling of what kind of hatred and falsehood comes from there. Remember when Christopher Reeve died and he was a Stem Cell Research advocate? Well, some Right Wing anti-abortion bimbo posted on there a prayer that she was glad that God had killed a baby killer! WTF? First, let's talk about baby killers. I would definitely call the Chimp a baby killer simply because he started a PNAC oil war with Iraq. Now ask yourself, how many children and PREGNANT Iraqi women have been blown up by our bombs. What about their unborn? (Sigh) I guess as long as these Right Wing fundies/Freeptards don't have to bury their pregnant wife or their children or smell the rotting stench of the dead over here, it's all good. Of course, these asshats think the Bible says: "Thou shalt not kill only the unborn." instead of "Thou shalt not kill."

These people are totally against our Constitution, love the fascism that is on the rise in this country, and adore and pledge loyalty to the Chimp and advocate violence on any one who dares question the Chimp.

19. A small mercy
I am glad that one of the administrators of the FR site had the decency to pull this thread.

I have wondered what the wackos were thinking about these horrific events, and was saddened, if not quite shocked, that they could be so cold-blooded and evil about it.

These are the people who brag about the crucifixes they wear around their necks, and who consider themselves the most decent and moral people in America.....

While the rest of the world unites behind the most injured and vulnerable among us, they jeer. They are not a part of our loving world.

Mind you -- knowing their reaction is, I suspect, a window into the mindset of this adminstration. They have no compassion; they truly fail to understand the magnitude of this event -- all they do is plot how they can use it for their advantage...and their choices will impact the rest of us for generations to come.

The tragedy struck the atoll nation of 330,000 Sunni Muslims which is already facing the prospect of extinction from sea level rise caused by global warming. Gayoom had warned that a one-meter (three foot four inch) rise in sea levels could submerge his country.

16. The working class in tropical places live near the TOURIST areas
they must do that because they need the jobs that tourism brings them.. The tourists stay in well-built concrete, brick and stone structures.. The "locals" do the best they can with scavenged building materials.. It's no surprise they perished..

Humans do not understand what coastlines are all about.. The are the buffer-zone between a capricious body of water, and terra-firma.. That's ALL they are..

Modern humans just cannot bring themselves to walk to the beach...if they can afford it, they simply MUST live right ON THE BEACH..

When beaches are used for fishing boat launching, clam-digging, and the occasional romp in the surf....and when your home is a safe distance from the shore, you have a fighting chance in a disaster.

If you look at old pictures of "island life", you'll notice that the "beach structures" were NOT permanent...for a REASON... The locals knew that they would not stand up to the storms and battering the sea gave the islands from time to time..

Modern humans put too much faith in technology, and not enough in common sense..

A drive through america will prove that...mobile home parks on the ocean in florida and on hilltops in the midwest :eyes:

We always think we can beat Mother Nature.. we cannot

32. They pulled it because
the official line has suddenly become ' let's show the world that we're the most compassionate country'. Do these people have a clue? The world can no longer be fooled. Money won't buy love or respect - never did.
The world knows that those comments represents the absolute truth in relation to how some people in developed countries view the non-white world. There was no reason to pull the thread - that's how they think, feel, are. But try and understand them - most of them are semi-literate hicks who just want to feel superior to some other group. They were born in hate and they love to hate the same way they love their Jesus and money. They are way too caught up in hate to understand the contradictions since the pastor thinks the same way.

38. Make no mistake, conservatives just don't care...
...about anyone else but themselves, and those who can do something for them.

Those freep comments are oh-so typical.

I have several arch-conservatives in my family. Unfortunately, I can tell you that most of them could care less about those who suffer, (unless, of course, they're the ones suffering and then you don't hear the end of it--and usually it's a hang nail or their mutual fund tanking).

All they care about is their money and power. They are revolted by weakness and they view human suffering as weakness.

Bush's slow response and lack of monetary support was a very calculated response. He was playing to his base.

The freep response was just more evidence of the myopic, brutally selfish attitudes that permeate the current administration.

42. I have several (actually most) of these types in my family too.
It was really interesting talking to them at Xmas. They can't even see the hypocrisy and meanness and greed. They all go to church every Sunday. They have theirs (inherited bigtime) so they love Bush and his tax cuts so they can conserve and grow their money. They don't care if others can't make ends meet. They can't see that they were given a lot of things. Trying to talk to them about Bush is impossible; they won't listen. Even though they KNOW that Bush's policies are hurting them in the long run (like good US jobs going to Asia) it helps them in the short run because their stocks are doing well with the corporate downsizing.

44. Makes you want to have your own Festivus, doesn't it?
What you are describing is exactly what I experienced during the holidays.

It's torture, listening to them discuss the laziness of welfare recipients and how much they've benefited from tax cuts. My father was actually against the Americans With Disabilities Act, because it forced him to make the bathrooms in his business accessible to those with disabilities.

The last time I was home (which was a long time ago, thank God), my father made jokes about the homeless all night.

And yes, my family also attends Church. They don't miss a Sunday. However, they fail to see that greed, a lack of compassion, selfishness and lacking empathy--isn't very Christian.

If I had Christmas with a pack of wolves, I think I'd find more family values and compassion.

All hail, Festivus! :)

48. there is a lot of sociopathic behavior in this country, far more than
people think. A lot of it is disguised by churchgoing and staying out of trouble with the law. But it's there, just under the surface. The shrub is a good example of this type of sociopath and so are those two brats of his. Without his family money, his father's friends, his inheritance, his family keeping him out of trouble and getting his criminal record erased, he'd be a total zero. But his self image is: I did all this by myself. He's been so protected.

PS Making jokes about the homeless tells me a lot.

49. It's nice to hear that others recognize this...
but it's sad that there is a great deal of sociopathic (and psychopathic) behavior in society today.

I'd definitely describe many of my family members as sociopaths. It's been incredibly liberating to have little/no contact with those members.

I think sociopaths and psychopaths are attracted to the Republican party. In the Republican party, it's ok to be racist, compassion-less, elitist and misogynists are most welcome. All of these dysfunctional behaviors are reflected in Republican policy and in their platform. Of course they hide behind platitudes and religion, to justify controlling women (pro-life) and detesting the poor (anti-welfare, tax policy that favors millionaires) and being a racist (anti affirmative action).

The Republican party is a petri dish--teeming with dysfunctional, sociopathic, deviant, evil behavior--that is encouraged and rewarded.

It's total crazymaking that these creeps hide behind religion. They've corrupted religion and turned it into a self-serving device that they hide behind and use to rationalize their sick attitudes and behaviors.

At least, WE have Festivus! :D

What these guys don't realize is THEY'RE NOT WANTED ANYWHERE ON EARTH. Freepers/fundie christian retards are the lowest form of (social) scum on earth. They're the most disgusting creatures out there; the "Ugly American" gone flesh, and they're just not welcome anywhere on the planet.

They never travel anyways, except maybe as hunters or to Disneyland/Fort Lauderdale; when they do get out of the country it's either as obese sex tourists with that "special" U!!!...S!!!...A!!! attitude, or as "ambassadors of America" on spring break in Cancun.

Tourism took a huge hit throughout the world post-9.11. The entire global industry had to suck up 40%-60% in losses, then rebuild from the ground up. And they're rebuilding as we speak.

IF EVERY SINGLE FREEPER JUST STAYED HOME, NEVER LEFT THE USA, THEY WOULD NOT BE MISSED. They're not part of the global "readjustment"; they're not part of the mix...BECAUSE THEY'RE JUST NOT WANTED - AND THE INDUSTRY WILL DO FINE WITHOUT THEM.

41. And this from people
who scream about 9/11 every chance they get, when more Americans are missing/dead from the disaster than were killed on 9/11! I've been disturbed by the western media's focus on Europeans and Americans who are missing or dead, as if theirs are the only lives that matter.

43. Once again, I am sickened to think that I share a nation with
these people. It is beyond comprehension.

I suppose.

Nice people over there in Freeperville. They always show their true colors.

59. At least they finally learned how to spell morons correctly. Wonder how
many times they had to visit DU and type it over and over again until they finally memorized how to spell it? Those Chimp bootlickers!

Not to mention hypocrisy.

Like I've said, many times: Just give them the rope, they'll hang themselves with it.
