You should be ASHAMED, you soulless monster!
Nearly 80,000 Lost From Devastating Quake: Death toll may double as disease spreads in aftermath.
CRS President urges "immediate outpouring of help"
Catholic Relief Services has committed $25 million to provide food, shelter, healthcare and rehabilitation to thousands of communities ravaged by this catastrophe. Relying on its long-established network of partners, CRS has already mobilized resources to the hardest-hit coastal areas of India, Sri Lanka and Indonesia.
"This terrible disaster requires an immediate outpouring of help from around the world," said Ken Hackett, CRS president. "We are moving quickly with our partners to ensure we are able to do what we possibly can to assist the survivors recover from the pain, the trauma and the devastation they have suffered."
Dispatches from India CRS and Caritas/India are now working closely together to save lives. Without swift action, even more people could die in the aftermath as floodwaters contaminate drinking water and destroy food supplies.
In India alone, the number of people killed has exceeded 8,500 and tens of thousands are homeless. Rescue efforts are being conducted with the threat of recurring smaller storm surges on the horizon.
CRS plans a three-stage response to the situation in India. Phase one, already in effect, is providing immediate food and medical assistance. The second phase could begin as early as the first week in January and will build on the initial response by focusing on shelter, heath care, water and sanitation. The third phase will help people, especially migrant workers and fishing communities, resume work, and will help communities begin rebuild.
