Why is the Democratic Party not organizing a major effort on its own |
|
to help the tsunami victims? Many of its big wheels, including Terry McAuliffe seem to be welll connected to the major movie studios and trial lawyers who can fund such an effort. Also, Dean and Kerry can raise millions if they put out an appeal over the internet.
Organizations like Doctors without borders, the Red Cross and UNICEF have excellent delivery systems on the ground.
Why is this effort missing?

2. If they did that it would take |

time away from them attacking Michael Moore and the Progressives in the base.
Also, they have to get permission from their boss, George Bush.

3. I have one possible explanation. |
|
The Democratic Party is joined at the hip to the Republicans on Iraq. Any effort for the Tsunami victims would inevitably raise questions about the War on Iraq and the avoidable deaths of 100,000 or more civilians in Iraq.I guess we cannot have those kinds of questions raised when we are busy bringing "Democracy" and Death to the Iraqis.

5. What a silly question. |

Nothing is missing.
Missing implies that it should be there. While it might be nice if the democratic party would turn itself into a relief fundraising organization, they arent exactly setup for that. In fact, having a political party in turmoil serving a key role in disaster relief is probably a bad idea all around.
Im sure there are planty of lawyers and hollywood people giving money to ACTUAL relief agencies. Why on earth should that money get funneled through a political party first?
And what makes you think you know what phone conversations anyone in the DNC has had. Im sure plenty of people in the DNC have donated and are encouraging people they know to donate.
The Democratic Party is an organization with specific functions. This is not one of them. Perhaps I can point you to the myriad of organizations whos functions involve fundraising for humanitarian purposes.
