"Nazi America" on the History Channel. |
|
The first part is about the rise of National socialism in Germany and how it took its roots. There are so many similarities to what is happening here, right now. Nationalism, claims of persecution of the popular masses, demonization of ememies.... Very scary stuff that I hope and pray americans never fall victim to.

These programs are supposed to show the bad and discourage. Freepers masturbate to the Hitler shows.

4. That's not fair. I like the History Channel. |

I'm a huge WWII and Cold War history buff, I'm a pretty mainstream progressive liberal, and I love documentaries on those. Think before you make hasty generalizations.

A lot of them seem to be serious WWII buffs. The USA and Britain truly saved the world from facism in WWII and americans in general should be proud of the generation that served at that time.

15. Think before defending the (Military)History Channel |
|
Congratulations, you are a war buff. Im a history buff, so when a channel calls itself the history channel and spends most of its time expounding on how awesome guns and war are, excuse me if I get a little sick.
The channel takes a very conservative, and institutionally biased approach to history and spends most of its time on war feeding into what is already a massively unhealthy US obsession with the military.

two Germans back in the 1970s who fled Germany and the Nazis in 1939. We had many, many long talks back then about what life was like, why they left, etc. I could write a book on the similarities. Very scary.

7. How about the Nazis in America |
|
at the time of Hitler? Sure, the colorful Bund rallies are favorites as documentary addendums, but that is just the naive yokel bunch. The real "fifth columnists", including Prescott Bush's clique of financiers and very prominent corporate manufacturers, not only got a pass from the government or a slap on the wrist, but they never get a decent run in TV documentaries.
A Google search turns up oddities. The term American Fifth Columnists quickly(or totally) gets applied strictly to the dangerous Communist threat of the fifties. Or yeah, lots of powerful politicians and corporate leaders were fifth columnists for the Commies. The spin and noise machine of the GOP has been in constant whine mode since at least during the long exile of the FDR years. A permanent state of denial, senile dotage, childish blame shifting and pouting has even added to the still cloaked desire for a corporatist takeover of the democratic institutions of the US. The winner of many a war has been eaten by its defeated foe because the battlefront is never merely a military one. Killing the commoners of the other side with some of your naive commoners does not remove the power pieces from the chess board.
Any society can fall prey to the desertification of the national soul, one way or another. Historians will argue that what we see is NOT classic Nazism by its strict local definition and they are right. What the real problem is has never been given the proper focus or name, generally the same old crap of thousands of years of brutal greed and power lust by the worst of humanity over the the dullest inertia of the otherwise decent majority.
The real reason for the comparison is twofold: the continued unpunished, little publicized Nazi affinities of various ruling corporate dynasties and the dumbed down brutalized nature of political dialog in the national forums. Deeply rooted prejudices resulting from a polyglot of a diverse population breeding as much old prejudice as empathy have made the nation a potential madhouse of unresolved issues simply globbed together until some maniac might refreshingly decide to :sort them out". Someone equally mad like a religious nut or bigot or ethnic champion who also happens to be the young branch of a twisted tree of power.

but you have to name names. The generic stuff was oddly listed with the strange skew I mentioned. Maybe after a thousand RW spews about fifth column commies you might get to bigger fish.
It will be interesting to see how these links survive the attack on the Internet if it comes.

19. Save and distribute the good stuff - they can't wipe out everybody's hard- |

drive. If that fails,I guess we can always memorize the information and pass it on orally. Read Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451".
Re: the "strange skew" you observed in your Google search of "American Fifth Columnists." A few months ago, I did exactly the same search, and was also disappointed. There just isn't much on the topic that's published with that title. Professional historians have almost totally neglected the topic of wealthy Nazi sympathizers and Fascist Financiers in the U.S. - guess that isn't a doctoral dissertation topic that's likely to get approved.
I wouldn't blame Google. My impression is that Google has been providing a fairly good rank order for political material. The company won't reveal exactly what criteria they use for rankings, but I think it's decided by a couple of factors: a combination of the actual number of hits at the site; and what the folks who work at Google personally liked. I suspect they're a fairly progressive bunch.
Let me know if you find something interesting.
- Mark
Finally, the best stuff on the Bush-Nazi links has been published by John Landis and Webster Tarpley.

10. Check out the DVD of Chaplin's "The Little Dictator" |
|
(I believe that's the one; where he parodies Hitler).
In the extras, they have disturbing footage of the Madison Square Garden gathering of the American Nazi Party, pre-WWII or early WWII.
Probably see Dads and Grand-dads of a lot of current Reichwingers . . .

11. Reading a book right now by a man who fled Germany in 1935... |
|
(written in present tense because the war was still going on at the time of writing):
"From 1914 to 1918 a generation of German schoolboys daily experienced war as a great, thrilling, enthralling game between nations, which provided far more excitement and emotional satisfaction than anything peace could offer; and that has now become the underlying vision on Nazism. That is where it draws its allure from: its simplicity, its appeal to the imagination, and its zest for action; but also its intolerance and its cruelty toward internal opponents. Anyone who does not join in the game is regarded not as an adversary but as a spoilsport. Ultimately it is also the source of Nazism's belligerent attitude toward neighboring states. Other countries are not regarded as neighbors, but must be opponents, whether they like it or not. Otherwise the match would be called off!"
~Sebastian Haffner, "Defying Hitler."
He goes on to explain how it was the German schoolboys who later became Nazis, rarely the World War I veterans who had actually seen the horror of war.
Dunno if we're there yet, but I can definately see some parallels. :scared:
