i just saw a couple shows, first on the KKK, second on the nazi party...the one about the nazis bothered me a bit...
they said that the nazis came to prominence in america in the 20s on such things as "family values"...:o does this sound familiar?!

|
I don't know if that's the story you're referring to, but I read today that the history channel was branching out.

It was more balanced when it first went on air, but after 9/11 it is all war all the time.
The run-up to the Iraq war had show after show (which they still replay, but not as often) basically spinning that Saddam = Hitler.
For all the Nazi history they are showing, they are sure blind to what is happening here in the US.

stalin was 100x worse than hitler...but he was our ally at that time, and we didn't really have access to the ussr anyways...so we were kinda ignorant of his "cleansing"...(his was less racial, more political)

And I did catch that bit about the Nazi party preaching on family values. I perked up when I heard that. It sounds so familiar. :-)
And did you hear that idiot of the neo nazi group point to his white skin on his arm when he said that is what he was fighting for. The purity of his white skin.:eyes:
I did enjoy the segment on the KKK and the nazi party. It was educational for me because I didn't realize the nazi party almost rose in the US.

13. yea, it's kinda scary to look at the 20's |
|
and realize how fast the nazi party had a foothold in the us...in fact, if i'm not mistaken, the show said that hitler and his SA cronies got their ideas of "white supremacy" and "racial purity" from the us...
what's more scary is to look at history, and compare it to today, and see the similarities...(the nazi party rose up in germany on the coattails of an economic depression and brought themselves back to their feet through empire building...)

The Nazi party got its white supremacy and racial purity ideas from the Eugenics movement in the United States. Germany latched onto this idea and did much more with it than the US did...but it is said that Hitler got many of his ideas by reading books by Eugenicists from the US. A good book showing the link between the US and Nazi Germany is one called "War against the Weak:Eugenics and America's Campaign to Create a Master Race" by Edwin R. Black...

I wondered that as I watched some of it. How many that marched with the Swastika on them in the 70s are now in public office . . .

bombing or two and we will really see them start to "reign in freedom". They will suspend the constitution and fire up the forced labor camps faster that you can say " I told you so"

12. well, i'm not trying to debunk family values |
|
Edited on Wed Jan-05-05 11:58 PM by ashmanonar
if that's what you're getting at...simply pointing out that by stating the nazis rose to power on issues such as 'family values", it seemed to mirror the rise of the GOP...
no offense to whatever you think family values are, but i think that family values as an issue is pretty stupid...if someone doesn't believe in having family and loving them, then dollars to donuts there's something wrong with them...
i believe in loving your family, but also in loving others like they were your family (ie at college, i have people i consider my family, bc i go to college a long way from home)
thus the concept of "family values" is ludicrous, if you have to worry about loving your family then there really is something wrong...
on edit: ok, maybe i am trying to debunk family values...
