Right Wing Radio must be STOPPED NOW!
Here in Maryland we lack variety in talk radio like you could not believe! Somtimes I find myslef wondering is this Maryland or Nebraska? Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Laura Ingrham, G. Liddy, Savage. That is all you can find on Maryland Talk Radio. Even the local talk shows are strongly Republican. Anyways, Today while driving to Subway I was listening to Sean Hannity blab on and on and on about "THE LEFT" and how THEY hate America and how THEY hate working class people. Its almost hypnotizing. For a split seocnd I caught myself thinking am I really ANTI-AMERICAN? And before I could be pulled into the light. I snapped back to reality (THANK GOD).

If "THE RIGHT" continues to hold this monopoly on talk radio we will lose thousands more voters. For example, my dad is a Democrat. But, hes not very educated and doesnt read internet articles everday to get some balance to the "Right Wing Media." He votes for Democrats because he believes they stand up for the working class people like himself. However, I believe if he were to listen to talk radio in Maryland more often he may be warped into believing it is a LIE and Republicans are actually for the working class people, not Democrats as Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh would like everyone to believe. ITS SCARY!

THESE PEOPLE ARE DANGEROUS. THEY COMPLAIN THAT MICHAEL MOORE LIES BUT THEY LIE MORE AND THERE IS MORE OF THEM!

Do any of you agree? How can we stop this?

When ever they give a public appearance dog the fuck out of them. Make it so they are unable to led "normal" lives, camp out in front of their houses and dog the hell out of them.

4. Do what Sam Seder did to Hannity
Sam confronted Hannity with his producer, who is a child of lesbian parents. Hannity backed down. The strawmen they build only stay standing if they don't have to stand up to them.

6. blah blah The Left Hates Working Class Ppl
because the left are such elitists... sipping our lattes...

but wait! I thought we were all on welfare and living in our mother's basements!

So either we are elitist haters of the "working class"... or we don't even have jobs.

Of course these shows are dangerous. I think they are seditious. But since we no longer have a Fairness Doctrine, and the media ownership laws have been shredded, the Thug Noise Machine and Echo Chamber can poison our airwaves as long as the $$$$ keeps rolling in.

17. Yeah. I love the "they're all poor" crap.
I just moved into a new "transitioning" neighborhood. The ugliest house on the block has a car parked in front of it with a "Re-defeat - another Liberal."

I don't hate working class people - but I hate bigoted, ignorant people who are basically the kids who never did their homework all grown up. If they happen to be working class, then so be it.

I actually despise complacent, middle class folks even more.

7. They are responsible for the ruin
of our country. We used to be the good guys. (or, maybe, we just thought we were). Now, people are debating whether torture is a valid policy while the Bushies endorse its use.
Imagine JFK or even Nixon endorsing torture as policy.
But the fake warriors of talk radio are all macho posturing. Of course, they've never been to war. They're pampered brats who make money lying.
They're turning our country into a nation of cowardly "might makes right" warmongers.
We no longer stand for dignity and strength. Just posturing and killing.
They're the ones who hate America.
Our stature has never been so low.

8. It is brainwashing
Really it is, they are the immoral of this nation. They are the bullies. They are the crazies. We need to stop ignoring this and start confronting this. AAR is a start. We need to make our voices heard, not be quiet and let things pass as we have in the past. We need to call Cspan, and the radio stations, and anybody else we can think of.

10. I tried to warn people 13-15 years ago when I first heard PigMan.
EVERYONE laughed in my face.

PigMan and his hundreds of local clones have been preaching In Your Face Fascism for over a decade. No one cared then. Fortunately, some care now.

However, the M$M have sucked PigMan's butt for years and years and years and have therefore "legitimized" fascism as the "other side" of our political debate.

19. Freedom of speech, however, they should be
held accountable for backing up the truth of everything they say. Al Franken did a piece on O'Reilly today showing that much of what he says comes out of his ass. This is what needs to be done. Bring back the fairness doctrine and force those shows to bring someone on who can challenge these liars make them tell the truth.

22. Its not stopping them that has to happen
Its countering them. Freespeech is a stickler. They got the right to say what they want.

The only real way to deal with this is to get some champions of our own and get out there and start preaching our views. We have to make noise. The current Dem leadership isn't going to do it. So we gotta do it our selves.

25. I agree! Air America is a start, but there needs to be more.
RW talk radio didn't happen overnight, and LW opposition won't happen overnight either, but we need to promote it. Air America is a good start and seems to be successful everywhere it has aired. I don't know how to promote a radio show other than contacting the broadcasters and tell them you aren't happy with the current venue and you want Tom Hartman, Ed Schultz, Guy James, or any of the hosts from AAR. I've done that here in Ga. and although I can't say that I had any influence, we do have AAR on one of the smaller radio stations here now. If it can happen in Ga., it sure can happen in any other state!

26. Yes! It's pure and simple brainwashing
When you factor in that there is no counter to the right in most radio markets, it's scary. I think it's just fine for these idiots to spout their bullcrap, they have the right, BUT there must be balance! There needs to be liberal radio EVERYWHERE there is right-wing hate radio. Air America is trying, bless them. But there needs to be more, much, much more!! I get so mad when I hear liberals saying things like, "Liberals don't make good talk radio" or "Liberals aren't interested in talk radio" Bull, bull, bull! Those are right wing talking points! Every liberal I know hooks into liberal talk radio on the internet if they can't find it on the airwaves and loves every minute of it! And if a liberal show flops, it's probably only because that person just isn't a good radio host, not because he/she is liberal.

I don't care what anyone says, I personally believe that the lack of liberal media is almost solely responsible for the Republican majority we see today. Whatever gets repeated often enough, gets believed.

What can you do? For one, go here: http://www.thomhartmann.com/getshow.htm
This tells you how to try to get Hartmann on your local station.
I'm not sure what else you can do except support any liberal radio you already have and their sponsors. (Especially their sponsors.) And keep screaming at the-powers-that-be to get us more.

30. Insanity said liberals hate working class Americans? This has gone TOO FAR
How do we stop it?

Get the means to make our own stations. None of this XM elite shit but REAL FM RADIO.

Or go back in time and prevent pre$ident ¢linton from signing the 1996 telecom act. That'd help a bit too.

And the sad part is, the American public refuses to do their own research or take a look at what lefties freely offer to give them. Information that can be found anywhere (at least until the * reich makes research illegal and you know that Patriot Act 2, 3 or maybe by 4 will have that become a reality...) Why? Because it's propaganda, apparently. Left wing indoctrination, as said by the M$M. Then they tune into the reich-wing whackjobs who in turn only repeat the vicious cycle.

32. Challenge their licenses
Every radio station's license comes up for renewal every eight years. Find out when your local hate radio station is due for review. Catalogue examples (with dates and times) of the station broadcasting material that you think is unsuited for your community. If Michael Savage is broadcast in your area, you have it made. One of my local stations has a habit of whipping up listeners into near-lynch mobs that congregate at rallies. Whip it up into a readable format and file a petiton to deny. Have fun.

For more details on doing this, visit this resource: http://www.griid.org/fcc_license_renewal.shtml

(Note: I don't not know the complete politics of the above site, so I do not necessarily condone the site above - but it looks like it gives a pretty good rundown of what to do and how to do it.)

33. How to stop them?
The shows that host these people obviosly make money on them or they would not front them. The only thing we can do is font people of out own to compete with them on the airwaves. Nationally left wing radio has not done as well ratings-wise and so there are fewer leftie radio shows. Lets all listen more and there will be more of the shows we like..

Listen to Air America...The better the ratings are for that one, the more likely other stations will take a chance.

36. Well, there is one sure fire way to stop them,
And that is to restore the Fairness Doctrine that Reagan did away with. However, judging by how Clinton and other Democrats have cozied up to the telecom industry, expecting such a move out of the "loyal opposition" is more far-fetched than expecting the Tooth Fairy to pay me off for my soon to be pulled tooth.

This is simply another move by our two party/same corporate master system of government to remake our society in a feudal, fascist state. Liberals, progressives and anybody even vaguely left of center must be demonized relentlessly in order to minimize the threat of real change coming about in this country. Sad to say, but Democrats are just as responsible for this state of affairs as Republicans and conservatives.

Until we place a party in power that is truly willing to stand up and fight, we are going to continue to slide into fascist oblivion. The Democrats are certainly not going to stand up and grow a spine, we have seen their true colors way too many times. It is time that we put our collective power behind a party that will fight for real change, and that isn't beholden to corporate cash. The Greens fill this bill nicely, and quite frankly, short of armed revolution, they are our only real hope left.

37. I agree with you 100%
and we need to counter them much more aggressively than we are currently doing. Freedom of speech is one thing, but IMO they need to be held accountable for the untruths they promote. Its not enough for us to speak the truth, we need to expose them and their misinformation. How to actually do that effectively, however, is another question altogether and I don't know the answer to that one.

It drives me nuts when I hear the lies, distortions and smears they spew on a daily basis. They are so smug and filled with hate and can hardly manage to discuss opposition to the RW view without resorting to juvenile name-calling levels. I've given up on talk radio in my area and cable news altogether.

Great post, by the way, Nickshep.
