Bush and the Rosary????
My mother called me into the kitchen a little while ago. She had heard Bush on tv talking about the tsunami tragedy. He said something to the effect of, it was so horrible and tragic I almost had to say the Rosary. Now, I know what happened w/ the tsunami was a horrible, horrible thing, but Bush isn't Catholic...why would he say that??? My mom, as a life-long Catholic, and me in the process of becoming confirmed, found it somewhat offensive!
But I didn't hear it or anything, I'm just relaying what my mom said. Have any of you heard anything about that?
And do any of you, Catholic or not, feel that comment was out of line???
Just wondering!!!

1. That was little brother JEB Bush, who is Catholic.
Apparently he converted when he married his wife. Nevertheless he was, in typical Bush fashion, grandstanding and flaunting his religion.

6. Note: "ALMOST had to say the rosary"
Good thing you weren't fully moved to say it, Jebbie, right?

15. Christan Right wouldn't let W get away with carrying a rosary
For them, Catholics don't qualify as Christians and the Pope is the anti-Christ. It must have been Jeb. If it was W, I would really like to know, because that would surprise me. The election is over, so he is done pandering for the Catholic vote.

16. Actually he didn't convert to Catholicism when he married his
wife although his children were reared in the Catholic Church.

When he got ready to make his run for governor here in Florida which has as you know a large Hispanic, primarily Cuban, Catholic population; he finally converted and joined the Church. So he joined just before running his first gubernatorial race.

I question the sincerity of his conversion. (I am Catholic myself)

18. That's disgusting, but just what you'd expect
from an ethically-challenged member of the Bush Crime Family. I think we can safely assume that if somehow he'd wound up living in Utah instead of Florida, he'd be a "devout" Mormon by now.

2. I read somewhere that Jeb said the Rosary in Sri Lanka today
Neither one of them are Catholic OR Christian, IMO. I guess they fell asleep during "Thou shall not steal."

making the same sign Bush makes. If I were Bush <shudder> I would stop with the fake "Texas Longhorn" signals. :scared:

9. George is not Catholic, Jeb is
Its his wife. Catholics traditionally are not supposed to marry noncatholics. Thus Jeb converted at some time.

19. Ever read Scalia's take on the death penalty and the Pope?
Practically called the Pope a fool for not supporting the death penalty. And Scalia is a member of Opus Dei. Though their clasification as Catholics is interesting.

11. isn't it "Pray the rosary?"
I thought the rosary was a beaded necklace and you count the repitition of the prayer by moving beads...

17. I didn't see this, but yes, I am offended

But I'm willing to chalk it up once again to his pathetic lack of both intelligence and tact.

ON EDIT: It sounds like it was Jeb. If he was sincere, I don't have a problem with it because I sense he is more serious about religion than George is.
