Barbara Boxer cried today (photos)

Sen. Barbara Boxer (news, bio, voting record), D-Calif., cries as she announces with Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones (news, bio, voting record), D-Ohio, that they will object to the certification of Ohio's electoral votes during a joint session of Congress today Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005. It would be only the second time since 1877 that the House and Senate were forced into separate meetings to consider electoral votes. (AP Photo/Gerald Herbert)

United States Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) (R) wipes tears from both her eyes as she listens to U.S. Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones (news, bio, voting record) (D-OH) discuss their filing of a formal objection to the certification of President George W. Bush (news - web sites)'s general election presidential votes from the State of Ohio at the U.S. Capitol in Washington January 6, 2005. The objection entered by Tubbs Jones and Boxer forced the Senate and House to delay the certification of Bush's election win and retire to their separate chambers to debate the alleged irregularities cited in the objection. What a great lady. I can only imagine the braindead misogynistic comments these photos must be getting at Yahoo and elsewhere.

our democracy! What courage they showed to stand up for us voters to have our votes count in this, our imperiled democracy!

I cannot thank them enough for what they did today. They made history and made me proud to be an American today.

8. I had tears in my eyes too
Kinda funny - I sent her another message thanking her (I sent one this morning before the party got going). Part of my message was that tears were in my eyes over this, and I didn't even know she cried.

11. It takes great courage and passion to stand up for "the people"!!!
What's terribly sad is THAT it requires so much courage and passion to take a stand for "the people"!!!

The fact that our "representatives" have become so entrenched in a political battle for their own power rather than being committed to their own people,...is what causes me to cry.

I am very proud of Barbara and all those who did this for not only "Just Me" but all of us!!! I admire and salute and will be forever grateful for those who engaged in an historical fight for democracy on this great day!!!

12. I am reminded of this photo from 1938...
Edited on Thu Jan-06-05 04:00 PM by AZCat
I was reminded of this photo of a German woman I found on the NARA web site. (warning - big pic) It's picture #78 - scroll down.

The caption says:
"The tragedy of this Sudeten woman, unable to conceal her misery as she dutifully salutes the triumphant Hitler, is the tragedy of the silent millions who have been `won over' to Hitlerism by the `everlasting use' of ruthless force."

It's a sad, sad day. :(

15. I know. It's horrible, isn't it?
I found it in 2001 at work after that POS took office (March I think), and just sat there at my desk for an hour.

Now it's worse.

21. the pain
I saw that pic and it is almost that bad here. We are at the mercy of an illegal regime that is trying to expand its empire. The foundation of our country is in jeopardy, and those we have elected to protect us only want to "roll over and play nice." I am sickened today by the sad display that was the congressional meetings!

22. wow...
The pictures of Boxer were emotional, but the one you posted, I almost didn't believe that a picture could be that sad...

until I looked at it.

That is undoubtedly the saddest photo I've ever seen.

17. Crying for our Democracy....She knew what was at stake...atleast she can
live with herself knowing she did everything that she could...unlike the Dems and Repukes who sat on their asses, didn't show, didn't speak up, didn't defend our Constitution....

I'm ashamed to be a Dem....but proud to be a constituent and supporter of her and will stand behind her forever and ever....She had courage that will go down in history books...

Every Dem that either didn't attend and vote or speak up will never have my support...the fact that Feinstein didn't "show" is her deathwish...I will support any Progressive that wants to challenge her...

20. Isn't she....
somehow related to President Clinton? Did she take Cranston's seat when he resigned? I don't remember - I just remember that Boxer and Dianne Feinstein both had to stand for election when they ran the first time in the same year.

I am also a constituent of Barbara Boxer. Always voted for her.. Unfortunately I voted for Feinstein also. But I have already let Feinstein know I will no longer vote for her again, after she voted for the iraq war....But Boxer has all my respect.

Remember how everyone got on Muskie's case for crying? Or on Pat Schroeder's case for crying? Politicians aren't allowed to cry. Only to order bomb drops.

Could it be fear. Or maybe shame for those that would not stand.
