Joe Scarborough questions how God could kill 150,000 people
Yet he's okay with Bush killing the same amount of people in Iraq.

1. Was her name Lori Klausutis?
Did Scarborough mention what God thought of her death?

2. yes, it is mind boggling
another God and republican oddity is Pat Robertson said God told him that the stock market will surge, our economy will rebound this year and it will be a wonderful and joyful thing for our country and then something about how pleased he (God) is that bush is in the white house and also that thousands and thousands of muslims will switch to christianity. You would think that god would have told him to stop the killing and the hate, feed the hungry and open your church to the homeless. Funny god! All giddy about our stock market. Who would have thought!

8. Robertson quote from MediaMatters:
Edited on Thu Jan-06-05 11:16 PM by Idealist Hippie
"I will remove judges from the Supreme Court quickly, and their successors will refuse to sanction the attacks on religious faith." Robertson also said that he "heard it from the Lord" that President Bush will have Social Security and tax reform passed and that Muslims will turn to Jesus Christ.

17. Muslims will turn to Jesus Christ and say
"get a load of these stupid SOBs. How does it feel to be associated with that bunch of thugs and murderers."

To which Jesus will reply "No shit. And to think I once actually considered going back for them. Fuck that."

18. Thanks!
I'm only kidding about being upset. The poster can watch whatever. I Tivoed the Scarborough Show (which I never watch) because I'm actually interested in how the religious right sees things.

16. This is what a friend and I don't understand
If God wanted to punish Swedes for the liberal attitude toward Gays, why not do something to Sweden? Or at the very least, take out the area of St. Paul, MN once known as Swede Hollow (just to make his point)?

The Lord works in mysterious ways. <sarcasm on>

9. Why did it take so long for these guys to take this talking point?
I find it odd that it took them two weeks to start this... didn't you all expect that they would start evoking God sooner?

10. is he baiting the likes of Falwell et al to offer something?
hoping to bring a tsunami wave of hate to the homeland echoing the likes of this:

Gays Responsible For Tsunami Muslim Cleric Charges

(Riyadh) A leading Muslim cleric says that the tsunamis which devastated South Asia and killed more than 150-thousand people were Allah's punishment for allowing gays into the affected countries. ~snip~

20. He asks perhaps because he thinks he knows why
Can't put words in Joe's mouth, but a lot of creepy speculation has come out about "why God would do this", here, stateside, and even in the effected areas. Huge natural disasters are often considered to be the work of an angry God, punishing sinners -- and there is no shortage of Mullahs/preachers to tell them specifically what sins are being punished. Even great religious leaders have done this in the past -- Mahatma Gandhi explained a horrific earthquake in India as such a divine retribution for sinful behavior (which made the secular Nehru cringe....)

I dunno -- maybe people want to think that God was striking at Muslims (in Indonesia) and secularism (so many Scandinavians killed or missing).

Some mullahs in the area are saying that it happened because people were not being good Muslims. Some Fundamentalists here say it is yet another sign of the imminent end of the world. Wackier Fundies claim that natural disasters always occur on Catholic holy days -- get the picture? Even wackier Fundies say that natural disasters occur when the US tries to broker peace between Israel and Palestine, when God clearly demands a purely Jewish nation. The wackiest theory I have read so far is the notion that the earthquake was caused by the AntiChrist crashing up from the bowels of the earth. (BTW -- I am not making any of this stuff up.)

On a lighter note -- one of my friends speculated, as I am sure others aggrieved with Bush jokingly do so -- that all this stuff seems to be happening since Bush became President, therefore it is a "Mandate of Heaven" kinda thing. Ha ha. As much as the Reich and the MSM find it so hilarious to accuse we lefties and Democrats (aka Sane People) are being drawn to crazy conspiracy theories -- they don't seem to apply the same harsh judgements to their own wacky notions; in fact, THEIR wacky notions are to be accepted as Absolute Truth.
