2. It is not fully released - becausae it does endorse torture-and the Senate |
|
is not going to fight to get all the memos into the record
There are some Court cases that will get more than the currently availavle "reference to Gonzales memo" into the public domain - but that will take time.
In any case the guidelines that are known exceed what most folks thought were the beginnings of torture.
Waterboarding is not a California sport!

3. apparently where he says the Geneva Conventions rules on treatment of |
|
prisoners does not apply to the United States actions against suspected terrorists.
Bu$h did say that we are in a 'War against Terror', and it is going about as good as the 'war on drugs' and the 'war on Poverty'..

5. I'm not a lawyer, but this is what I get out of it... |
|
He rules the Geneva conventions as obsolete, he redefines POW status to avoid accountability, & he skirts the War Crimes Act, to name a few.

The August 2002 memo is the one on torture that was used to guide DoD interrogations until it was replaced a few weeks ago. The one you've got is the one that puts terrorists outside Geneva Conventions and says Bush has the authority to allow torture, I think. Here's the 8/2002 memo: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/nation/documents/dojinterrogationmemo20020801.pdf

7. He endorses torture by saying |
|
that the Geneva convention DOES NOT apply.
And he basis this on shaky ground wrt the Taliban, a government who with right up until 9/11 we were doing business with and our government was giving money to.
He also declares that the Taliban wasn't a government, but a military organization. What the hell was Nazi Germany then? A peace organization.
This guy should have no business even applying for the job.
