Revolution Symbol samples to date! They are all pretty cool (BIG)
Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 09:41 PM by xultar
If you are the artist of one or more of these plese discuss meaning intent, colours, symbolism etc in this thread.
If you wanna help pick the symbol tell me what you're thinking. I can't do this alone PLEASE help me here!
Design for the revolution... We're still looking for one.

On the list so far
Spiral - Historical symbol for revolution
White Rose - based on the fight against the Nazis
Paper Clip - based on the solidarity fight in the 1930's
Dove
Olive Branch
Star

Here are some questions I have for you?
What are we doing?
What are we fighting for? Against?
What is this movement all about?
What are we trying to say to the people of the world?
What is our overall message?

Please help me answer these questions. I think clarifying our message is priority one. WE always diss the party heads about the message but we can't seem to clarify our movement/revolution right here.

Give it a shot...

1. Xultar, you deserve credit for pushing for a symbol.
It's valuable.

2. Thanks, but you know what I really want...is participation. WE can benefit
so much by this but man it's like pushing an elephant. Pun intended.

Even if we go straight on with the paperclip. I don't care much @ all. I'd just like us to agree for once.

Edited on Fri Jan-07-05 10:59 PM by Paulie
I still like either the frequency or the alternate paragraph symbols. Torn on which works better, maybe the para since it's part spiral, which people seem to like. But the frequency one shows going through cycles, but in a controlled way.

Both are simple, easy to "tag" on anything, can be a pin, or drawn with a pen on a coffee cup.

The ones with color, you'll need to print stickers or something to put on things.

established semiotic with a history, so people already sorta know what we are about. I'm not sure why, but I don't like the green confederate flag at all. Some of these I don't know what on earth they mean.

In my mind we really need to embrace who we are, not try to corporate ID out, and damnit we are Woodstock/Stonewall/MLK Nation, which is what I take the rainbow peace sign to symbolize, more or less. (I like the Statue of Liberty too, for the same reason: it already means something to people.

Thx for all the work, xultar and wonderful artists!!

13. I just don't get the stars and bars idea - AT ALL
the only thing I can think is that it represented a group of people ho were willing to rebel against what they saw as a great injustice. However, most people in the world don't think that they were suffering a great injustice and we'd just look silly like them. At least, that's my opinion.

I do like the rainbow stuff, though. I like all the messages it conveys.

18. If you notice, the colors are different
these colors are usually associated with African countries (Jamaica as well). This was presented because it takes the message of the original confederate flag and throws it right back in the opposite direction.

A symbol only works if it is easy to understand by everyone, not just the supporters.

It is easily reproduceable in chalk or paint on any surface. It is blue. Symbolism can be open ended..

It kind of symbolizes the darkness we are now in. But eclipses are only temporary...as is the darkness we now face...a tad cheesy, but I really like the imagery.

16. That is a very good idea
We should pursue this idea. In my opinion, that image itself might not be the best, since it is hard to draw and would be hard to duplicate in any medium. However, I think that an image of an eclipse which is easier to recognize and duplicate would be a great symbol.

40. easy to represent, actually
a black field with a large hollow white circle, perhaps with a spire of white coming off the circle at the appropriate points (to represent a "lens flare" ala the photo).

We are elicpsed by * and his administration.

We seek to permenantly eclipse him and all his followers.

I like that idea.

because ultimately that's what all this is about. We The People are held hostage by a government that has taken power through fear and corruption, and treats everyone who is not co-opted as an enemy.

33. The golden Apple on the field of blue. The Apple is for wisdom
From my orginal post.
Blue signifies vigilance, justice, patriotism, freedom, peace, perseverance & justice." That's what blue signifies in the Great Seal of the USA.

I picked a golden delicious because the gold signifies justice.

I wanted to keep it simple. Anyone can draw an apple. Only having to buy two colors of paint is a nod to the poor student and out of work workers.

34. While I'm partial to the hobo symbol...
<---- for its positive message ("take this road, it's better")... :)

... I'd have to cast my vote for either "We the people" with the Statue of Liberty, because it's very positive, too...

... or for the blue paper clip, because it's so accessible for everyone, and has sort of an "inside story" to it.

Whatever symbol wins out, I think this whole thing is a great idea.

Thanks, xultar! :hi:

37. We the People
with the Lady.It symbolizes everything, very powerful.
Say it out loud" WE the People"...demand free election, etc.

Also it's familiar to all people, something to identify with.It symbolized US taking back our country. The Lady is ours!

The hippie peace symbol is too common now, people don't take it serious anymore.
And some of the other symbols are to vague, not easily explained.Remember, people don't want to think, have short attention spans.
