Anyone else find Mark Luther on "Al Franken Show" disgusting today?
Edited on Sat Jan-08-05 01:59 AM by Eric J in MN
First Mark Luther said Rush Limbaugh was correct in saying that Democrats opposed to making Alberto Gonzales the next US Attorney General are "racists."

Then Mark Luther said Democrats who aren't thrilled with the idea of Condeleeza Rice becoming Sec. of State are racists.

6. He is Al's childhood friend, and Al has him on to represent the ..
dittoheads of America. Listening to him is miserable, but, for some reason, Al keeps this bit up.

And, I feel so set up. Of course I don't want an attorney general confirmed who wrote a memo basically authorizing torture, putting OUR soldiers in danger by putting them on notice that we wouldn't honor our law (the Geneva Convention - both a treaty and THE LAW), and who called the Geneva Convention 'quaint.' And yet, they can distract whoever is listening by saying, 'Racist!'

Of course I do not want Rice confirmed as Secretary of State, because 1) it was her negligence that played a key part in the terrorists being able to carry out their attack, and 2) she is a warmonger/neo-con, who cares not one iota about a family being deprived of their beloved child for the rest of their lives. But, if I say so, it's 'racist.'

Not sure why Al even has him on the show. I guess as an example of how idiotic wingers can be.

My browser crashed when I tried to stop that vid of O'Reilly talking about the FBI sting here in New Orleans over a few prostitutes and some weed. I'll have to go back there... got about 500 more pics to see! :D

Yeah, the Bolton/Helms reference may be a bit obscure, though most are not. Are these too obscure?:

8. Yes, I've encouraged Al Frankin, IF he wishes to remain friends
With his bud (or any other rabid right winger friend or family member), to STOP discussing politics with him.

I love every member of my right wing libertarian family BUT I've sated and no longer wish to know any more that is within the dark recesses of freeper mind sets.

Best example is my big brother driving me to the Airport last summer casually asking, "Do you mind if we listen to Rush?" I politely, but quickly and clearly retorted, "Oh please, let's don't and say we did." <eg> End of discussion - about that a** and we had a very enjoyable non-political discussion instead of arguing to no avail. ;)

Franken is great - I love Air America Radio, but I even think his bud Mark Luther is tiring from the "Resident Ditto-head" gig.

10. Typical Republican tactics though Eric. If you notice most of their
defense of their positions are often a wide circle of personal attacks with nothing in the center. The idea is to shout down and shut off debate on most issue for which they have no defense. Normal the media helps them by allowing them to spew this nonsense taking up all the time allotted for the interview, interrupting the opposing view if their is one and by not challenging this crap as providing nothing of value to the debate. This is an art form the repubs have perfected. What most people not hip to this tactic end up hearing is how some democrat or liberal is unpatriotic, or has no moral values or is an obstructionist instead of how exactly Condi or AG is or is not qualified for the job they are being appoint to.

15. I am listening now to a repeat....
It is easy to see Luther is a racist as he looks at race FIRST instead of character. Regarding his Condoleeza comments, Luther remarked that Blacks and Women should be celebrating that she was chosen for such a high office and said Liberals were racist for not embracing her. Again, when you look at race, gender, or whatever instead of job performance, that is not equality.
They just don't get it, do they?

If liberals did applaud Condeleeza Rice because she's black, that would be racist.

19. That sounds like reverse racism to me.
Isn't that what they're alway going on about? I don't believe that a person should be promoted to a high government position simply on the basis of their ancestry or skin pigmentation. Sorry.

Condi's negligence and deriliction of duty helped get 3000 people killed on 9/11, but she's supposed to be promoted to Secretary of state just because she's black? And we're supposed to accept an AG who justifies torture and wants to trash the Geneva Conventions, just because he's Hispanic.

That is the most racist drivel that I've ever heard.

I don't usually catch Al Franken, since I mostly only listen to AA while I'm driving, so I haven't managed to catch that Mark Luther guy. Just as well I guess. I mean it's not like I can't hear that crap on every single other talk radio station.

Luther's beliefs/denials/disengagement-with-reality and generally blockheaded responses freak me out and disgust me whenever I hap upon that segment. I try to avoid it. God bless Al for trying to maintain the friendship, but I wonder why. I would have cut him loose years ago.

The notion that being against torture and a man who writes torture memos EQUALS being a racist is low.

28. I think there are 2 reasons * keeps choosing minorities
for his cabinet and other jobs...1. he can point to them and say, see I believe in equal rights for all, I've had more minorities in my cabinets than anyone else...2. Just what you've been discussing here, they can pull the race card when there are objections and make it appear that we don't believe in equal rights...

31. Franken thinks this is "equal time" journalism...
... and gives his long-time friend the opportunity to speak, therefore.

Maybe Franken hopes to show up the right, to punch holes in their logic (no need to do that, since they don't exhibit any logic), but I think the true reason that Mark Luther, the dittohead, is on is that Franken can get back at Limbaugh through him.

Franken intends Luther to be a comic foil, but it never seems to come off quite as well as he intends, partly because, as today, he always introduces Luther as "a really great guy...." Franken doesn't understand that he'll never decimate Limbaugh through Luther because Luther is his friend, and he'll always give the man the benefit of the doubt. If the man is a racist, because he believes Limbaugh's racist remarks, that friendship bars Franken from telling him he's an outright racist.

Franken screwed the pooch with me when he said, "I'm a good DLC Democrat." Fine, that tells me he's okay with Democratic politicians supported by corporate money from the right wing. Then he has this wingnut Luther on the day after the election, so the idiot could chortle about the drubbing the Democrats took, about which Franken could say very, very little.

Franken has simply misunderstood a basic about political life today--if you're polite with the right and want to engage them in debate in a spirit of bipartisanship, they'll shit all over you every chance they get, which Franken's buddy does to him--and his listeners--regularly. The right has a monstrously large political voice in this country--in Congress, in the White House, in the media--the left doesn't need to give them equal time.

Franken's the victim of political date rape, and can't bring himself to admit it. Go on being "bipartisan," Al, and keep on takin' it up the ass.
