OK, I am moving to set up bluehammer.org - A call for volunteers

The recent incident with John Cosgrove in Virginia getting his head handed to him over his asinine miscarriage bill:

http://www.thoughtcrimes.org/mt/archives/001866.html

The incident proved to me that this is the way to go, ESPECIALLY when dealing with state legislators. An a single email campaign sent this little neo-con nut job running for his mommy. Cosgrove withdrew his bill and crawled back under his rock. This guys was shut down in about FOUR days.

So, I have started setting up the web site and I will need volunteers who can help with the following:

- Xoop content manager software setup and admin
- Database programmer(s) (MySQL, PHP or CGI)
- Programmer(s) to set up voting and ranking software
- Art design for site, banner ads and alert banners
- Help with a promo campaign
- Moderators
- Members (once we are up)

Please PM me or send email to david@thoughtcrimes.org

BlueHammer.org will be a rallying site to help focus activist on one issue at a time, rather than trying to handle multiple issues at the same time.

For a full explanation, please see this post:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x2923295

This site will be driven by the membership. I am not interested in setting myself up as leader of anything.

Please keep kicked!

9. Every success we have had with
blogging and activist sites has been because everyone swung into action on one issue.

The Cosgrove situation taught me a valuable point. Bringing local and state politicians into our sights can be VERY effective.

I was thinking that Ohio needs a law on the books that forbids public officials involved in overseeing elections from endorsing or raising money for candidates that will be on ballots they supervise.

to become a member. Good spear carrier, here. :)

I like real lawn (bluegrass) and this program sounds like a real grassroots antidote to astroturf. Count me in.

10. Exactly
This site will be set up so members can log outbound emails so we can measure the pressure being brought to bear.

14. Damn, David, we are not getting much action here
But I promise to keep an eye on your latest project. Sounds like a really great idea. Sadly, I am not computer savy enough to be of any use to you for the site.

18. That's OK
You can certainly contribute as a member or helping get the word out.

15. Somethings we will be trying to do with the site
Ideas to ponder about the structure of the site.

To give you a basic outline of what I wish to accomplish, I would like to be able to set up a site that allows:

- An alert system that when activated will email members and update "alert" banners on other web sites.

- Code for alert banners which will run on participating sites. As time progresses on an issue, we will increase the pressure on folks by increasing the number of people contacting them. The banner would have a percentage value showing how much of our goal has been accomplished that day.

- A system allowing us to track action by members. When a member takes particular actions, he logs in and checks off what he has done that day (emailed, FAX'ed, phoned, vistited, demonstrated. etc. We can then show current actions on a status board on the front page (which also changes the % value on our alert banners).

- Code for rating proposals of members. When issues reach a certain rating, they are then moved to the voting queue where they can be voted on Action will be taken on the highest vote getter.

- Once proposals are rated for voting, we need an area where the proposal sponsors can put together their action plan, an outline of information, intelligence, and proposed actions (which would include contact info, addresses, etc). These would then be voted on for action. Other members will be able to "sign on" to the project, offering to handle specific tasks.

- To protect against freeper disruption, I would love to hear people suggestions about vetting memebers. Aside from requiring real contact info, I also would be interested in asking for references from established activists. I know this is not fool proof, but it would certainly help cut down on problems.

16. I already messaged you
but for the record, I'm officially volunteering, as a moderator and/or talking points writer.

I could do some banner and promo graphics, too.

The easiest way to vet some people is an internet search if you have an actual name, but I don't know if everyone who volunteers would be googlable in a meaningful way. (That's a word, right?)

Vetting all members will be interesting - the site will be visible to everyone, right? So I'm guessing you mean the voting members need to be vetted, so we don't get freepers listing wedge issues as our top priority day after day. Or are you thinking members need to be vetted to log that they sent an email, also?

17. All good questions
I don't think infiltration could be done in quantities that would affect votes, however I would like members vetted if we can come up with a workable method. I think we might be able to do pretty good with just having real contact info and checking references.
