Bushes put on a show for inauguration ceremony
Independent
By Andrew Buncombe in Washington
12 January 2005

The White House has made its sartorial choices for next week's inauguration ceremony.

President George Bush has chosen a business suit rather than the more formal morning suit, a style last worn by Ronald Reagan.

Mrs Bush will wear a white cashmere day suit by the designer Oscar de la Renta, (pictured).

For the evening balls the first couple will attend, Mrs Bush has opted for an ice blue and silver gown by the same designer.

1. Sartorially-challenged family?
The President's daughters, Jenna and Barbara, have ordered ball gowns by the US label Badgley Mischka. Barbara's V-cut neckline is apparently cut so low that the designer felt compelled to reassure gentle souls that there will be "no wardrobe malfunctions for the first family".

SORRY no pics on this site...

2. Xinhua:
BEIJING, Jan. 12 -- The full-length wrap gown that Laura Bush intends to wear to the inaugural ball will be classic and elegant but "with a touch of shimmer and shine," according to designer Oscar de la Renta.

"I've been making clothes for Mrs. Bush over the last four years. Early in December she came to see me and asked if I would prepare some sketches for her for the inauguration," de la Renta explained.

The gown she chose, which features a layer of tulle adorned with bugle beads and crystals, was the designer's favorite, too. "Obviously I wanted something very glamorous. For any first lady, this is a very special kind of evening," he told The Associated Press Monday.

4. I'm just glad they aren't wasting that money
on the tsunami victims. Or on reimbursing DC for the security costs. Or on armor for the troops.

It's important to send the right message about our priorities.

I hope the donors get nice snacks.

6. What makes you think she's going to pay for the clothes?
Puh-leeze. She is a Bush, after all.

5. Slather that lipstick on the pigs
Only image that comes to mind.

Or, trying to make a silk purse from a sow's ear.

The horrible suffering this evil group has brought to the world cannot be disguised by expensive clothes.
