Career Tip For Schoolgirls: Strip
The principal of a Palo Alto middle school may not invite a popular speaker back to an annual career day after he told girls they could earn a good living as strippers.

Management consultant William Fried told eighth-graders at Jane Lathrop Stanford Middle School on Tuesday that stripping and exotic dancing can pay $250,000 or more per year, depending on their bust size.

"It's sick, but it's true," Fried said in an interview later. "The truth of the matter is you can earn a tremendous amount of money as an exotic dancer, if that's your desire."

Fried has given a popular 55-minute presentation, "The Secret of a Happy Life," at the school's career day the past three years. He counsels students to experiment with a variety of interests until they discover something they love and excel in.<snip>

4. It depends.
Some Women who basically cared for their bodies and go into stripping after their mid-20s do pretty much okay and usually don't have alot of the negatives that come with stripping (drugs, asshole lovers and stuff) happen to them. The younger ones usually do get into trouble.
Takes all kinds I guess.

19. I Used to Bounce at Strip Clubs...
and tittie bars when I was in the Army. For some reason, a lot of these girls wind up hooking up with the biggest assholes. When they finally dump the guy, they find another one just like him. What is really crazy is that a lot of them could hook up with older guys who would definitely treat them well and truly love them, but all they ever took from these guys was money.

The few who did take up with older guys hardly ever regretted it. Usually it was the older girls though.

5. Let's just strip the hypocracy away from this one
All the fathers who were "mortified" to hear this suggested to their daughters probably have frequented these clubs at least once in their lives.

6. I fail to see the hypocrisy.....
... in a father not wanting his daughter turn out like some other daughters he has seen at least once in his life...

A a long time ago, I had a friend who dealt drugs. Am I a hypocrite now for not wanting my daughter to become a drug dealer?

<shrug> if you say so... then sign me up...

if you were a drug dealer and didn't want to your daughter to do drugs.

15. Yeah, I think that's what they implied.
Somebody who doesn't want their daughter to be a stripper, but goes to strip clubs (or is unrepentant for having gone to strip clubs in his youth.)

22. I like strip clubs, but if one of my yet unborn kids became a stripper....
I would kill myself.

As Chris Rock said, "There are some good fathers out there and bad fathers out there. But if your daughter is a stripper, you fucked up."

21. That's just life, isn't it?
My great-grandmother actually killed a man once. It's it hypocrtical that she didn't want any of her children to be murderers? (I am fairly certain none of them turned out to be murderers, but with my family..who the hell knows. One or more of them was probably capable of killing a drifter for his boots).

34. I wouldnt find anything hypocritical about that situation either...
I dont think its hypocritical to sell drugs and not use them.

At the convience store that I work at we sell beer and smokes, I dont use them, that often. ;)

It would however be hypocritical to sell drugs and not want your son or daughter to do the same. :P

16. I understand what you are saying.
It is not hypocritical to want your children to have a better and more fufulling life than the one you have had. I hope my children have twice the joy and one tenth of the darkness. I think most people do. I hope they don't repeat my mistakes or get caught up in things that I may have gotten caught up in that in hindsight I would have been better to avoid. Not hypocritical, parenting.

33. For some, stripping is a step up. It's not the best job in the
world, but if you have a kid at home needing to be fed, stripping might be the only job you can find that pays a living wage.

Ugly choices have to be made some times.

I have been to a strip club. It's not my thing. The booze was expensive, the dancers "enhanced" and the music was corporate radio crap.

7. why is that different from telling boys to become athletes for money?
as a threshold matter - it is a bit distasteful that the comments were made to eighth graders, but is it any worse for someone to tell boys they can make a lot of money by becoming a professional athlete? its not as if he was advocating prostitution, but just that exotic dancing can be a lucrative profession for certain people just as basketball, or baseball, or medicine, or law or any other profession may appeal to other people.

flame away if you wish

8. Because professional athletes are "respected"
(and considerably better paid) for their skills and talent, and really, anyone who suggests "exotic dancers" are as well probably reads Playboy for the interviews...

24. I think athletes typically work harder than strippers
Randy Moss is an ass, but I know what his off-season workout routine is like.

A friend of mine from high school is a stripper. She spends her downtime sleeping and using a tanning bed.

9. So, you are saying if your child became a professional athlete or a
stripper, it would make no difference to you. Same thing. That is ridiculous. I would not want my child rubbing her ass in some stranger's lap for a twenty, call me crazy. And I would think that would have to have SOME effect on her. Everything we do effects us. Rubbing your ass in strangers' laps is not excluded.

... playing sports and stripping?

Wow.

"... exotic dancing..... JUST AS basketball..."

Emphasis added, of course.

Wow.

Life is like a box of chocolates - you never know what moral equivalences people will come up with next.

EDIT: In fairness, I suppose, as long as you yourself are down and COMPLETELY happy with YOUR own daughter becoming a stripper, then fine.

25. It's kind of a crazy analogy, isn't it?
On the one hand, you work hard, train your body, sacrifice, master a very specific skill set and eventually make a fortune.

On the other hand, you show your vagina off in public and a horny guy like me gives you a twenty.....

Same thing, really.

26. LOL - I can imagine the response to your two hands....
"On the one hand, you work hard, train your body, sacrifice, master a very specific skill set and eventually make a fortune."

On the other hand, you get up in the morning and play basketball all day.

ROFL.

27. True, there are some athletes you are just that gifted....
I think LeBron James was just touched by God to be a basketball player; no 18 year old - regardless of their work ethic - should be able to do the things he does. But, you also can't look at his body without knowing that he spent a lot of hours in a gym somewhere working.

I've been drunk in West Virginia for a significant percentage of my life. There are strippers making decent coin who let amphetamines do most of the "work" for them.

with his line of thinking and just advised the women to be 'adult film actresses' to make some easy $$$$...I still can't get over the 20/20 episode last year about the adult film industry...18 y/o mormon girl gets into the industry after high school, and becomes a star, making $350,000+/yr at 22 y/o...She is also paying the way for 5 siblings to go to college, and bought her mother a house (her mother was initially against her career, but is now her business manager)....

man, didn't I choose the wrong profession!! (/sarcasm, but only half sarcasm, because I really do get crap pay at my current job, and even though a career in the industry seems fun for a guy like me, i just don't see it happening)

She makes about $3K a WEEK.. Of course unless she saves that money, her career will end when she is still fairly young, and she will be broke, but she's making a lot of money now.

He freaked out when he first found out..She was always such a prim and proper little thing when we knew her
