This year MLK meant more to me than ever before |
|
Call me shallow, I am one of those clueless white people who thought MLK was a good man, but not one of my heroes. A hero for Black people, that was my category, as I suppose he was for many of us.
This year, circumstances being what they are, I paid more attention to the celebrations and remembrances of him than I ever did before. Hearing excerpts from him on Air America this morning made me wish I had the day off to just think about him. His words and actions seem so relevant to me now, and I am inspired by his intelligence, his spirituality, his courage, and his patriotism.
I finally got MLK.

2. The army was doing more surveillance of MLK than the FBI |
|
and what's also scary is that Hoover was LBJs neighbor while LBJ was a senator. When the MIGs military intelligence groups were watching and recording MLK, do you suppose they could do that to anybody ? Doesn't matter now does it ? Patriot Act and all that civil rights are out the window, they can just trump something up on anyone now. All you'll get is 'who cares' even from the ACLU.

he's one of my MAJOR heroes.
Just to hear one of his speeches or read his words, I tear up. I get goose bumps. I remember what it means to hope again for a better world.
Here's to you, Dr. King, here's to you....

4. Two Flags flown on my street today - SoCal |
|
I live on a street where most everybody flies their flag on every holiday, including days such as Armed Forces Day, December 7th, etc. All of those days EXCEPT MLK Day. Since 1985 when we moved here, I've been the only one to put the flag out UNTIL today. There was one other!
My freeper husb. doesn't believe in MLK Day but I told him this area had restrictive covenants and I wouldn't be allowed to live here back in the day. Now, there are lots of Asians like me, and a black family, and some Hispanics.
Anyway, I was gratified to see the white family next door fly their flag.
Peace.
