So he will be shown "compassion," will do a faith-based rehab, and be offered a job at Faux Propaganda Network.

DA's history pointed at past drug problems

01/17/2005

By ANGELA K. BROWN / Associated Press

Four years after a tough-on-drugs campaign won him the district attorney's office, Richard "Rick" Roach faces federal drug and weapons charges that threaten to send him to prison and end his political career.

Law officers sealed the indictment against Roach, but details could surface Tuesday at a hearing in Amarillo, about 50 miles southwest of Pampa. The Republican prosecutor has been jailed since his arrest last week on charges of possession of methamphetamine, cocaine and unlawful possession of weapons by a drug addict. ....

David Holmes, an assistant prosecutor under Roach between 2001 and 2003, said he never suspected drug use. He said Roach at times was friendly and talked about his Christianity — he even sang a few times in a gospel music band. ....

"How could someone deceive so many people?" said Harley Knutson, whose 45-year-old son, Michael, was prosecuted by Roach last summer for possession of methamphetamine and sentenced to 10 years in prison. ....

1. The hypocrisy bothers me.
But for that, I could excuse the drug use (our drug laws are absurd, harmful and stupid).

2. Because Republicans USE Christianity as a mask to hide themselves.
Name ONE Christian Republican politician who has been sincere and actually follows the example set by Jesus Christ who was an advocate for the poor, the sick, the working man. You can't.

The Republicans serve the moneychangers and the war profiteers.

Their idea of religion is in tune with the Pharisees, not Jesus Christ.

3. maybe it's a little harsh but
this guy needs to get put away for life.

Hypocrisy is EXACTLY the issue here - you can't take years of someone's life in a sentencing and then expect to be treated differently yourself for the same crime or worse.

What's more is that if he had all of that on him he was more likely dealing than doing, which is a whole different animal. I hope they lock the bastard up for good.

4. Richard "Rick" Roach? What happened to his first nickname,
Richard "Passmeda" Roach. That shoulda tipped everyone off right there.

:evilgrin:

On the other hand, what are the odds this guy will get anything near 10 years?
Roach's stance;
Roach prioritized the cases, even over sexual assaults and other felonies, and demanded prison terms of up to 99 years for drug offenders, Holmes said.

The story has more clues;
In the counties Roach serves — Gray, Roberts, Hemphill, Lipscomb and Wheeler — most criminal prosecutions are drug related

Roach for tort reform too?
Roach lost the election, and a year later he sued The Canadian Record and The Pampa News for libel. Both cases were dismissed in 1998.

Holy smokes! Read the entire story this guy's a train wreck, given every opportunity under the sun. Expect him to be appointed to some position in the bush* admin.

5. What The Hell Is "Unlawful...
possession of weapons by a drug addict"? Does that include caffeine or nicotine addiction? The USA will leave no stone unturned in it's quest to make every human action a punishable offense.
