WTF??? We're already in Iran???
US commandos are operating inside Iran selecting sites for future air strikes, says the American investigative reporter Seymour Hersh.

In the New Yorker magazine, Hersh says intelligence officials have revealed that Iran is the Bush administration's "next strategic target".

Hersh says that American special forces have conducted reconnaissance missions inside Iran for six months.

Sorry if this is a repost, but this makes me PISSSED!

3. Yeah, my apolitical Mother even asked me if heard about it!!!
Edited on Thu Jan-20-05 04:46 PM by Ripley
I laughed so hard I almost burst when she said it. I asked her if she had secretly learned how to use the computer and was on DU. She said I heard it on the news. I laughed again, and said, huh-uh. She said, "Oh wait I heard it on CSPAN yesterday when that Rice gal didn't answer their questions."

Killer, when Mom knows. Maybe they'll all get a clue now.

(On edit: I know apolitical Mom and CSPAN don't go together, but she has been nervous (and bored, thus watching TV alot) this week with Dad in the hospital.)

13. Actually, Ripley, I first heard about it in an interview on CNN.
Unfortunately, it hasn't gotten much play, but I expected as much.

I don't watch TV News anymore. Surprised it would even be mentioned there. Thanks for the update.

32. I only watch CSPAN, but my mom watches the news
and since my computer and my school materials are all situated across from the television, I'm inevitably exposed to it.

Unfortunately, today my mom has been masochistically watching the inauguration while she's working, so I've had to endure Bush, Cheney, Lott, Hastert, freepers, etc. exulting for the past few hours while I'm vainly trying to do some research. :grr: At least we can bitch about it together, though.

My parents live an 11 hour drive away from me! Unfortunately I cannot go visit my Dad in the hospital, but talked to him on the phone today.

I must be a tad bit older than you! But good luck AT - go do your research at the REAL WORLD library, if they have one near you!!

41. You know, you don't have to be so patronizing.
All I said was that I don't typically watch CNN either, but my mother does and that is how I hear about it.

I must say, it is pretty damned condescending and presumptuous to say that I need to study in the "REAL WORLD". Yes, I am almost certainly younger than you, but what does that mean? You don't know me. You don't know anything about me or my life experience.

42. You totally misunderstood my post!
I was not at all being condescending....I meant if you can't escape the coronation on TV at home because your mother had it blasting, you should go somewhere else to do your work! Sheesh! I was trying to make a helpful suggestion.

What the fuck is your problem? You initially assumed i live with my Mom. Sorry, I forgot some of you still live at home, you don't have to get yourself so worked up and take offense where none was intended.

Edited on Fri Jan-21-05 01:40 PM by American Tragedy
Where exactly in my post did I make the assumption that you lived with your mother? I was referring to my particular circumstances, not yours. Anyway, the thing about the real world just irritated me, because I'm not a stranger to it; I only recently moved back in. Sorry. :(

Oh, God, this is so stupid. This sometimes happens when I have too much to drink - I pursue issues that would be better ignored.

44. How about a truce?
I'm sorry that my other post sounded condescending - not my intention at all. Sometimes I forget that my intended meaning cannot be conveyed properly without the reader seeing my facial expressions or the tone of my voice. The perils of communicating by typing!

Peace.

45. Yes, I experience the same problem.
A great deal of interpersonal signals are obliterated when we interact this way, and smilies are a damned poor substitute.

Anyway, I'm sorry if I blew things way out of proportion. As you could probably tell, I was in a very bad mood, due in part to some personal stuff going on in my life, and that filtered into my interpretation of messages here. I'm not usually like this.

Peace be with you, and I hope you won't hold this too hard against me in future conversations here. O8)

4. Freedom is on the march, mothafuckas!
:silly:

Boy, why is it that everyone hates our country now, after all the freedom we're bringing to people?

The Iranians will give us flowers too, I bet.

Except for those insurgents that will hate freedom.

Hey--if we destabilize the entire Middle East, maybe we can force Russia to declare war on Israel and bring about Armageddon!

I wasn't enjoying life anyways. :scared:

He said something about not just hunting down terrorists, but spreading freedom throughout the world. In other words, I take that to mean he plans to "liberate" more people in places like Iran.

I'll give you that...

Seriously though, there's hardly a finer journalist to be found than Hersch anywhere and around these parts, dissing Hersch is not a good idea. It's usually a sign that there's not much integrity in the poster who does it, if you get my drift.

As far as I'm concerned you can keep posting here regardless of your previous affiliations, it's a great place, but be prepared to have your ass kicked w/ facts if you pipe up w/ bullshit.

He's been around a long time and is credible. However, I respected Dan Rather as well, and lately I hear the freeps around here saying things like "yeah, I remember him during Vietnam...he was such a flake!"

**CLANKITY CLANK** - sound of peanuts percolating inside the freeps cranial cavity.

I did not know his background, only what I picked up while I was still a GOP type (you would be suprised how easy it is to be a conservative in the military, and when you only hang around them as a civilian).

It took my exposure to more thinking that I got going to schoold (UW Parkside in SE Wisconsin) and then I still had issues with Clinton and the way he conducted his self (his policies were dead on if a little bit timid).

Any way thank you for letting me progress, I have been in and out of the hospital since 01. And have only been recently cleared for work and life as I used to know it.

Thank you all.
