Poll question: Which Democratic Candidate Will Wesley Clark Hurt the Most? |
|
Edited on Mon Sep-08-03 04:43 PM by David Zephyr
When General Wesley Clark enters the Democratic Presidential Contest, as is now expected, which of the nine current candidates stands the most to lose?
Why do you think so?

2. Lots of Voting...But Give Your Rationale. |

Edited on Mon Sep-08-03 04:54 PM by David Zephyr
I used to think that the obvious loser would be Kerry, but I don't think it's so straight-forward any longer about whose candidacy would be penalized the most.
Some have correctly pointed out that Clark will futher divide the anti-war vote, thus hurting Dean, Kucinich, Braun and Sharpton with Dean having the most to lose at this point.
Others have told me that Clark will make Lieberman's cheerleading for the War in Iraq look unfounded.
Natuarally, the Kerry credentials lose some luster with Clark as well.
Edwards and Graham are both Southerners like Clark and this may hurt them.
There must be many other possibilites, too. I'd like to hear them.
Please don't just vote. Explain your vote. I would anticipate that most every explantion would have merit.

..yeah, sort of an out-there vote.
But I think both Clark and Kucinch have this maverick roll that would appeal to folks who like that in a candidate. Clark might draw away some of Ks support as he is maybe more telegenic, but still has that maverick vibe.

8. interesting reflection but I disagree |

because well maybe this is just at DU but Ive seen Kerry or Dean supporters at times say they would support Clark if he entered. BTW if he entered I am still for Kucinich.

Dean. Let's hope not. We don't need more macho toughness. Americans have been watching too much TV and too many movies. The Iraq invasion has made the world less safe and US more dangerous. Violence breeds violence. There are other solutions, but unfortunately 99% of 'mericans never heard of them, can't think of them, and don't believe in them when told.

because I don't think it's about hurting other candidates. How does Dean hurt Moseley-Baun? How does Edwards hurt Kerry? How does Sharpton hurt Kucinich?
It's not about hurting each other, it's about providing options and letting the voters decide. It's democracy. Remember democracy? Like what we had before bunnypants.
Edit for sp.

I voted Dean because he seems to have the most momentum at the moment, and is running the most viable "outsider" campaign.
I think Clark will be VERY attractive to most Democrats, many independents and a fair number of Republicans. And if he jumps ahead, then the front-runner has the most to lose, and right now I'd say that's Dean.

because the "I served in Vietnam" thing is the only thing Kerry's got going for him right now.
