Poll: Clark Already Poised to Take Over Third in NH, Before Announcing
Edited on Mon Sep-08-03 06:47 PM by ignatiusr
The Boston Globe has a new poll showing solid support percentages for all the candidates in NH. It already got some press here, because of Dean's lead over Kerry, but I don't think I've seen this pointed out yet as well: Clark is already a point away from placing third in New Hampshire. Here are the results:

Dean 31
Kerry 20
Gephardt, Lieberman 6
Clark 5
Edwards 4
Kucinich 2
Sharpton 1
Graham 1
Braun 0
Don't know 24

Needless to say, this is mighty impressive, considering the fact that Clark has yet to spend a second or a penny campaigning. He's been to New Hampshire a grand total of twice in the last year and a half, as far as I know. Once he announces, and actually starts campaigning, he'll get a huge boost. And even if he doesn't place 1st or 2nd in NH, many people have speculated that the big winners in NH will be the 1st place and 3rd place winners, since the second (at this point, either Dean or Kerry) will be seen as the real "loser." And Clark is obviously in very good shape to wrap up the third place spot, if he's already almost there before he even becomes a candidate.

1. Huh
Almost makes me feel bad for the folks who have worked so hard but still linger in the <5% range.

3. Not arguing that point.
Especially if 2/3 of Dems couldn't come up with a candidate's name last week. Yeesh. Just a matter of organization and fund-raising at this point. Easier said than done though, perhaps. We shall see.

4. I thnk he'll be declaring very soon
I was thinking the speech in Iowa, are you going Pepperbelly? I think I may make the drive. Given his incredible marathon of interviews lately it may be sooner yet.

5. Kerry and Clark on the ticket is the way to go...
While I'd rather have Clark for president, either way would be great. A Vietnam vet and a Nato General vs. a draft dodger who sends troops to die in Iraq and somebody who had large amounts of stock in a company that gets contracts out of the war.

10. "Poised to take over third?" What kind of spin is that?
I like the General but your candidate is forth, behind four other candidates, and only 4 points ahead of Al Sharpton. This could also be spun as: "less than 1/6th of the support of Howard Dean"

Good luck General!
