Travels with George (Bush) documentary...Just on CBC Newsworld |
|
I just watched the documentary made by Alexandra Pelosi about the press corps' travels with George Bush on the 2000 campaign....What a revealing portrait of the little weasel....He spent the whole time on the plane or where ever else they would be, smoozing and "charming" the reporters....They were supplied with booze which seemed to be always present on the plane. It is so obvious after watching this documentary, how the media was influenced by him....One of the reporters says it quite well...He said "Bush is constantly aware of himself and how he is effecting those around him and it is at times uncomfortable for me to watch him."...The thing that is revealing is at the end of the documentary, when Bush has been declared the winner and as he is leaving the reporters who have accompanied him on his trek across America yell out, Governor have you anything to say to us before you go?" And he just looks at them and says. "good-bye", turns and leaves....(He no longer needs to smooze them!)

in Moore's Fahrenheit 911...I could see how he could charm people in small doses. Chummy, folksy, very good at it.
It's when you see so much of it in this film that you realize how phony or insincere it is. A persona he puts on...Texas 'neighborliness' kind of thing. He switches it on and off at will.

in large doses, but most people don't get a large dose of it.
Although the media was obviously flattered by it.
