I have a bad feeling about the next two years
did anyone else get the sinking feeling we will be losing more seats in 06? The Dems just CANNOT seem to get a good coherent message....I am worried now... Bush actually sounded better than normal. He just promised lots of empty platitudes that will make the sheeple feel good...and his popularity is rising again..

1. It's risen for what, six days?
It was at yet another record low before then. It's too early to start worrying about '06, especially when most of the candidates aren't known yet and so much of the agenda is up in the air.

2. Bush sounded pretty good (give the devil his due)
and Reid and Pelosi were woefully short on specifics

4. That makes me so ANGRY
the dems can NEVER have a coherent message and so they always put out these vague platitudes. "we want to save jobs, we want to get more education blah blah blah" well that's lovely Reid but what the fuck are you going to do to get it started?

12. We need specifics
The Democratic caucus should develop a bill to answer thge presidnet on social security. Call it a "Dem fix bill". They should then take it to the Republ;ican caucus and say "how can we make this agreeable to both sides?" Then they can take it to Bush. The problem is that we just seem to say "no" all of the time and never make our own proposals or counter-proposals.

3. Oh, I think Dean will shake things up a bit. This won't be the
same old "corporate sponsored" Republican Lite party that it used to be.

I want my country back!

23. and you know what's really bad, Skittles? We can keep going
on and on with this list and more commas. They own most of the banks, most businesses, the insurance companies, etc. And they send in the endless streams of money to shrub and the rest of the gang of criminals. They own the money machine, the media propaganda machine, the administration, the courts, the law-making machine...primal scream

It's just amazing how we keep collectively letting this happen.

27. internets, LOL, but nothing else is funny is it. I just got off a
bankruptcy thread and that was no fun let me tell you. Bankruptcy through medical bills.

We collectively "let" it happen because there are more of them than there are of us. The sociopaths who lie to the ignorant/stupid/unaware American public are quite successful in getting their lies believed.

10. The truth is...
Edited on Wed Feb-02-05 11:11 PM by liberalmuse
it is not the Dem message. It is the American people. They are chosing to go the way of other facist states that have cropped up all throughout history, and don't want to hear about compassion, tolerance or justice anymore. They want to hear the Republican message of aggression, power and wealth. Americans take pride in knowing they're kicking Arab ass, but they want it worded as, 'spreading freedom' because that sounds better. The Dems just can't polish a turd the way the 'pubs can, and most Americans are either too apathetic or they're grasping for that big, fat, stinking, luminous turd.

16. You might be right
I keep hearing that we need to frame our message better in order to convince Bush voters to cross over. But really, how many different ways do you have to frame something before you start to think, maybe it's not that we aren't framing it correctly. Maybe it's that the people we're trying to reach simply don't want to see things the way we do. I believe in equal marriage/civil union rights for everyone. The Republicans could try to frame that issue a million different ways to reach out to me, but they're never going to change my mind. I bet there are plenty of people on the other side of the issue that feel as strongly. I'm not saying the Dems should give up, but maybe they should start trying to attract non-voters instead of just aiming to bring Bush voters over to their side.

18. Well said. Bush is tapping into the secret fears, hates, prejudices
of America, as Reagan did before him. He makes Americans feel "powerful" even as he screw them to the wall.

Nuts.

but I do read my weekly The New Yorker magazine. Bush and followers only think brute force is the only way to win anything. They would be happy to steal my boy's bodies and minds to prove their point.

21. Wouldn't it be amazing....
if the Ratpugs had the elections SO rigged that NO democrats were to win any election, anywhere in the US.

The Senate and the House would be nothing but Rotpublicans. Can anyone else see this? I can.

And no one in this country would put 2 + 2 together?

24. I'm kinda torn here.
For the first time I was reminded of Clinton in a good way. Usually it's because I remember Clinton's SOTU's and Bush's are so lacking by comparison.

This was the first one where I felt he sounded sensible and reasonable. That's bad. Clinton's best attribute in this situation was how reasonable and agreeable everything he said sounded.

Bush sounded very reasonable...if I didn't know what I know, he sounded positively moderate and completely willing to work with people towards sensible solutions.

Well, except that whole marriage amendment thing, the encouraging Iran to open revolt, and threatening Syria with a WMD club.

But they all come a-cropper in the end.
